2006 Columbia Transfer Application Statistics

Columbia College had 60 spots for 1200 applicants.

The good news is that it's not a game of chance where everyone has a 1/20 success rate. You CAN be one of the 60 if you work hard enough (and have a little luck).

this year, 60

Did they take 60 or did they have 60 spots?

they accepted 60 transfers.

how many of those 60 acceptances do u think were actually taken?

We don't have to decide until early June. Since other schools have yet to release their decisions (e.g. - Harvard), I'd imagine many admitted students haven't made up their mind yet.

Anybody get finaid from columbia as an xfer? I got zero and my mom only made 47k last year!

5% this year

sonny - make sure you contact the Fin Aid department and tell them of your situation. And even if they turn you down once, try it again and again with other people. They tend to be fairly flexible under some circumstances. Also, if you've recieved better aid from anothe school this year (or perhaps even other years you've applied to colleges) show them those aid letters - they should at leaslt try and match it. Best of luck!

And they're giving me $10,000 MORE in grants than I currently get. I'm so excited. I also got into Brown today, but I would definitely go to Columbia over Brown. Woooo

wow. you got into columbia college AND brown? that is quite impressive :]

I'm attending UCSD (like another student who posted on here and was rejected)... I was wondering if the accepted students could send/post a copy of their transfer essay? I know this is a lot to ask, but I just have no clue what a transfer essay should look like.

This is an interesting thread, and no doubt relevant on the eve of transfer admissions. Well, the last 5 weeks anyway.

ugh dont remind me haha
its funny because 2006 was a tough year, 2007 they accepted nearly twice as many transfers, we’ll see!

What circumstances precipitated that, I wonder?

i just got into tufts and cornell and like tufts better than cornell, so im trying to convince my mom to let me go to tufts instead of cornell. but my overall goal is to get into columbia. would i have a better chance to transfer to columbia as a student at tufts engineering school or cornell school of human ecology given that i will do well in my freshman year?

Curious to note that most of the acceptances have fantastic HS records, but almost none had a 4.0 college GPA - most are in the
3.6-3.9 range.

Glad to bump the topic up.

So who’s applying this year?

Me! - to the General Studies program.

I’m working on my essay now, and trying to figure out who I should ask for a LOR.
