Anyone waiting on Northwestern for theatre (and hopefully MT certificate)?

I'm waiting...although I doubt I'll go there if I am accepted. I'd still like to know if I'm academically strong enough to get in.

Brendan...with highly selective colleges, not getting in does not then imply you are not academically strong enough. You can be very much qualified and still get turned away from a school with a low admit rate. Please realize that if you (anyone else too) are turned down at a very selective college or program, it is not a commentary if you were qualified. There are more qualified students than places available. I think if you have a balanced list of colleges appropriate to your level and don't get into any, then one might examine if the list was appropiate but the results at any one particular highly selective school does not truly indicate the strength of your qualifications. Schools with low admit rates cannot accept all qualified candidates.

According to posts on last year's NU decision thread, they were online Saturday, March 26th, and the letters went out shortly after. So it should be soon.

Brendan, you have some great options so far... are you leaning towards one school or waiting until they're all in?

Right now I'm leaning toward Ithaca or Syracuse, but CMU is my #1, so if I get some good news from them next week....I'll be ecstatic!

I am waiting, as well.

the applicant services website won't work for me... so maybe that means they shut it down to change the decisions...

It works for me?

or... it could just be my computer lol

Is NU anyone's first choice?

im torn between NU and NYU... although ill probably go for the latter if i get into both

Lotte, you're in the same boat as my son. I remember you now -- you also received a Saturday in the Square invite from NYU, as did he. Are you going to NYU on April 8th?

I think NU is my first choice at the moment considering I wasn't accepted to any other of what I consider some of the 'top' programs...so yeah, unless I get accepted to CMU(haha) it's my #1 at the moment.

Cindy, I'm hoping my son will choose NU if he gets in. I think he's kind of leaning that way, although if NYU offers him any scholarship, it'll make the decision harder.

I don't know if you guys are monitoring the NU thread (non-MT), but the internaional students received their acceptance packets yesterday, via FedEx. Posters seem to think the U.S. students will have their decisions online by tomorrow or Tuesday. Good luck!

Edmonds g: I cannot attend Saturday at the Square although I think it would be of great help to my decision making if I could go. I do not think I have the grades to get into Northwestern so I'm doubting an acceptance altogether, but if I do get in it will be hard to turn down such a prestigious university. However, there is something about NYU, New York, and the vigorous professional training I will receive there which I think is possible at Northwestern, but not required (and I'm the type who needs structure or i get off track). It's going to be a very hard decision. Which studios did your son request at his NYU audition??

Lotte: M son would really love CAP21, but gave Playwrights Horizon as a 2nd choice. It's interesting that you said that about the vigorous training at NU being possible but not required like at NYU... I was under the exact opposite impression, from reading the NYU boards. I'm just going by what I'm hearing 3rd-hand, but a few people have said that the opportunities that are available to theatre students are endless at NYU, but that because there are so many people vying for them, the student really has to be driven and prepared to pursue them on his/her own. My son is like you said -- he does better with a lot of structure --which is why I was thinking NU would be better for him. Oh well, they're both incredible schools... we can't go wrong with either one! How about you -- which studios?

edmondsg: I went for CAP 21 as well with a second choice for the Meisner Extension. Perhaps I assumed that because NYU offers a BFA that their training would be geared more toward professional trianing, and NU's BA program would be more toward a well-rounded education (although I know that NYU makes sure that you get enough liberal arts in). So, yeah I'm really just assuming. If I get into Northwestern I suppose I'll have to find someone who has an idea about this stuff and give him/her a call. For some reason, I lean toward NYU.. and I'm thinking it's New York. But NU has Chicago and the campus and... this will be tough.. but I most likely won't be getting in.

i havent been able to get on the website all day. do you think they are putting their decisions up?

I've logged on several times today, but no results yet. Be sure you're closing or refreshing your browser window before logging in -- I was getting a login error until I did that.

I've been following the "when and how do we hear" thread on the Northwestern CC board - http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=157069&goto=newpost -- and it sounds like the best guess is tomorrow afternoon for online results. They put them online just before they mail the letters.
