2006 Fall Semester OFFICIAL UPENN transfer Applicant Thread!!!

Damn... In that case, I'm probably going to be the last one getting notified.

No i think the for sure rejects and accepts will be notified then...

I sent a pic. It was a stupid one from 2 years ago when I was in Moscow. I looked hot though so hopefully Ill get it

I'm from Moscow! I also sent my pic. It was the one I put in my resume for a model agency ha ha :)))

I just submitted my Senior Portrait...simple headshot of me in a black dress.

hey everyone, less than a week left!

anyways, i came across this article on the penn admissions website. it basically goes through the admissions process for early decision freshmen applicants. i know it has nothing to do with transfer admissions, but i'm assuming it's going to be somewhat similar.

http://csmonitor.com/cgi-bin/durableRedirect.pl?/durable/1998/12/15/fp11s1-csm.shtml

enjoy!

BUMP since decisions are right around the corner...

I had to check some stuff at Penn today, and when I was getting off the phone I asked the lady at the desk if she knew when decisions would start coming out and she said that they would begin being released on the 11th, last year most people didn't start getting them before that date too so I wouldn't count on the 1st..I also wonder if they are going to trim down the size of their transfer class like some other schools in response to these huge freshman pools..anyone have any information on this? best of luck

I still haven't recieved info about PIN number or whatnot.... can we check online, or is it all snail-mail based?

I haven't received PIN info either, but I've been told that it isn't a big deal. I called to ask for my PIN and they said that when decisions are available online, you can click "I forgot my PIN" and it will be e-mailed to you, anyway.

They are supposed to be sent via snail mail.

That sucks that they don't start being sent out before the 11th :(

Why must all colleges play with my fragile heart when it comes to decision dates? Screw you UChicago and Penn!

Goodlluck everyone!

may 11th? that's not so bad. my last final is on the 10th, so i guess it'll keep me concentrated.

Today I got an email from UPENN asking me to write as to why I chose Mathematics major? and like a random question "Howz ur semester going?? Explain in 5 lines......Is this really weird...... Did anyone get any email like that???

In case anyone wants to ask me last minute questions, I was a transfer last year from NYU CAS with a 3.7 GPA, a 30 ACT, and MathIC-620/Spanish-690/Writing-790. NYU is the most represented school during orientation - about 11 people I met had transferred from NYU, only one from Stern. No one I met had transferred from community colleges, it was mostly people from UChicago, Oberlin, Columbia, Stanford, Smith, Barnard, and the like. I needed mucho aid (NYU screwed me over) and Penn accepted me AND gave me enough to cover all my tuition. They are really insane about good financial aid at Penn, because they're trying to be like Harvard and Yale - - the tradeoff is that they don't pay their professors enough.

I got my acceptance on May 6th of last year and I strangely entirely expected to get in - I don't know why I was so cocky, I don't have anything particularly interesting to offer, except that I'm pushy and like to argue and speak 6 languages. Anyway, hope that helps, you all seem like star quality transfers but one note of advice; if you want to go to school for humanities and you get into a program like Chicago or Berkeley, don't let the Penn name take you away from that; I'm a philosophy major and I feel extremely unsatisfied with the intellectual experience.

Bonne Chance a Tous!

pepsicokevodka.. that is straaaaange.. it does seem like a good sign though.

Well of course you are, Penn is a very preprofessional place - no offense, Georgetown is too.

I was speaking to one of my professors, and he remarked that Penn realized they could not compete with Harvard and the like academically, so they instead worked on what they had best: their pre-professional programs. Indeed, Penn now beats Harvard in business.

At any rate, we had one of your philosophy professors this year. He is wonderful, and shall be returning to your school for next semester.

a few other ppl on this board got this

sadly, i didn't...i have no idea what that means...i was pretty emphatic saying how i wanted poli sci

Ha yea but you'd think people who are smart enough to get into Penn and Georgetown would be a little less conventional and original, but obviously coming from the Midwest originally gave me completely idealistic view of the ivies, even if it was the pre-professional ivy.

Georgetown was the second-most represented school at transfer last year, as well - 5 people I met were from Georgetown, and they fit right in with the Penn mentality . . .good for them, I guess.

That does not surprise me at all : )

Edit: We seem to do well at placing transfers: we placed many students at Harvard, one student on my floor was admitted to Brown, another at Stanford, and one student in the philosophy department was admitted at Yale (this was all last year).
