2006 Nass

Applications are open!....get your spot. Good Luck to all c/o 2011 candidates!

It opened EXACTLY at 0000.

Now that the applications are open, anyone even remotely interested in engineering at USNA should sign up for the Systems Engineering workshop. I would put it as choice #1 because it is amazing.

They added a section this year (to comply with NCAA rules I suspect):

"Navy Sports

Are you being recruited for a USNA Sport?: NOYES (Required)
If Yes, please indicate the name of USNA Coach: Select From List
Would you like to be considered for USNA Sport Recruitment?: NOYES (Required)
If Yes, please indicate which Sport: Select From List

Contact USNA Admissions if USNA Coach or Sport is not listed."

I think they also changed some seminar topics. This years list:
AERONAUTICAL ENGINEERING
ASTRONAUTICAL ENGINEERING
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT SEMINARS (NEW?)
CHEMISTRY OF PHOTOGRAPHY (NEW?)
ELECTRICAL & BIOMETRICS ENGINEERING
FOREIGN LANGUAGE SEMINARS (NEW?) I think so cause they actually spelled it "LANGAUGE"...Ha!!
HISTORY ORIENTATION
INFOMATION TECHNOLOGY
INTRODUCTION TO ECONOMIC REASONING
INTRODUCTION TO FLEET COMMAND WARGAMING
INTRODUCTION TO LITERATURE AND RHETORIC
INTRODUCTION TO MARTIAL ARTS
MECHANICAL ENGINEERING APPLICATIONS
METEOROLOGY & OCEANOGRAPHY
NAVAL ARCHITECTURE
OCEAN ENGINEERING
PHYSICS IN EVERYDAY LIFE (NEW?)
POLITICS, FREEDOM & POWER
ROBOTICS, COMPUTERS & NAVAL WEAPONS SYSTEMS
SEAMANSHIP & NAVIGATION: INTRODUCTION TO YP'S
SYNTHESIS & PURIFICATION OF ESTERS AND POLYMERS
TOPICS IN MATH

I think the "Systems Engineering" seminar was either a last minute change/rename or it was the "Robotics, Computers & Naval Weapons Systems" topic. Not sure, but it isn't on my son's sign-up list for last summer as "Systems Eng." but he definitely took that seminar...and was impressed.

My NASS app is in .. and it did indeed open at 0000E exactly .. good luck, everyone!

Record time Chackster. I think it took my son about 3 days to conjure up the remarks sections. Good Luck!

Foreign Language and Character Development seminars were both there last year; I took them.

My take on the few classes that I either took/know about. Take it for what it's worth...

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT SEMINARS (Not New)

CHEMISTRY OF PHOTOGRAPHY (Not New, I took it, it was ok)

FOREIGN LANGUAGE SEMINARS (Not New, not fun)

INFOMATION TECHNOLOGY (Took it, it was fun)

INTRODUCTION TO FLEET COMMAND WARGAMING (TAKE THIS!)

INTRODUCTION TO MARTIAL ARTS (You'll get sweaty, dirty, and LOVE IT)

METEOROLOGY & OCEANOGRAPHY (YP trip, but boring)

PHYSICS IN EVERYDAY LIFE (This one might be new)

ROBOTICS, COMPUTERS & NAVAL WEAPONS SYSTEMS (Amazing class)

SEAMANSHIP & NAVIGATION: INTRODUCTION TO YP'S (2 hour long cruise on
the YP's, I actually got to drive one for about half of it, very fun)

Take this for what it's worth, but I figure it may help if they havn't changed the classes

My Apps in too!!!

Good Luck Chackster! I believe mine was all final and sent (after the sport follow-up part) at about 12:56

So yea, good luck Chackster, and be checking the mail up to April 15th i think it was!

By the way, where are you applying from? Im from Maryland, (eek competition) maybe i'll see ya!

Good luck to you too, ColbyBuss! Stay on the forums so we can talk when we hear! I'm from Florida.

I attended NASS '04 and would be happy to answer any questions about it. I had an amazing experience and would HIGHLY recommend the program to anyone even vaguely interested in the USNA.

Well, my application was done and sent in at about 12:30AM.

Good luck to all of you!

soooo cavalier302 are u in USNA? get accepted yet? or any tips to helps us out?

No, I go to the University of Virginia. I attended NASS '04 and enjoyed it thoroughly, but ultimately decided that my youth would be better spent elsewhere. I did not follow through with an application to the academy. So, here I am, an Echols Scholar at UVA. Sure, I'm not leading the disciplined life of a USNA badass, but I'm enjoying other things, like sorority girls :) . If you have any questions, feel free to ask here or IM me.

Oh yea, tips: Do as well in everything as you can. Get high SATs, high grades, and excel academically. Oh yea, and show lots of interest throughout the process.

yea . . .lol

the usual smeal , lol

Eeeeeeeek SAT's i need to take them!

I got my acceptance last year in the mail of Feb 22. I first found out i was accepted to NASS by an email a week before I even got the stuff in the mail...If you apply early, you find out early!! Then you can look foward to it more and start doin pushups, pushups, more pushups, then when ur done, do MORE pushups. If you get tired of pushups, take a break with some pullups!!! lol

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT SEMINARS (took that)

INTRODUCTION TO MARTIAL ARTS (awesome..everyone wanted to "sneek" into that..its a blast, everyone talks about it!)

ELECTRICAL & BIOMETRICS ENGINEERING(my FAVORITE!!! i want to make this my career!!! TAKE IT!!!

ASTRONAUTICAL ENGINEERING(really NEAT!!!)

TOPICS IN MATH(we played math jeopardy)

INTRODUCTION TO LITERATURE AND RHETORIC (BORING)

NAVAL ARCHITECTURE(awesome)

OCEAN ENGINEERING(SoOoO much FUN!!! take it!!!)

thats good to hear!!!

Maybe i will also hear early, or wait, do they tell you if you arent excepted or do you just never hear you are excepted????

Oh and yea the Martial Arts looks awesome because i have infact been taking Taekwon-Do for the past 5 years, so it would be good to go in with some knowledge

no you hear if your not accepted and it also has a reason as to why...

It was a fun class, one of the many oppertunities to learn outside the classroom. I have never done any thing like martial arts, i just had a lot of fun doin it, during Sea Trials there is also a part containing martial arts!!!

agh Sea Trials...the best day of my life..I WANNA GO BACK!!!!

~Gina

Sea Trials...definitely a rough day...lol.

Yeah guys, Sea Trials was fun!

Anyone out there who is still filling out the app. for NASS, I also highly recommend the Weapons and Systems Engineering workshop. That was incredible. And like everyone else, I say that early is better. This is true through the whole admissions process. Good Luck everyone.
