2006 UCLA Regents Invitation

CONGRATS to all who received the invite -- U R IN!

smile: these scholarships are typically targeted to in-state apps, but they do give out few to kids OOS.

Is it possible that the letter still hasn't arrived? Since I am oos, I decided to e-mail the lady in charge of the scholarship. I told her that she needs to give my app further consideration. haha... I wanna go to UCLA for free. I'm only a 2230 best combined and 2170 best single sitting.... grr.. i'm too low. But, I'm super involved ... class rank 14/ 299.... not too good either... eh... i don't really deserve this. Any chance?

So how many of the people that get invites acutally get the scholarship?

YAY I got it too!!! :) :)

GPA: 3.98 unweighted (my school doesn't rank)
SAT I: 2260 (760 Verbal, 760 Math, 740 Writing)
SAT II: 790 Chinese, 790 Math IIC, 790 United States History, 760 Spanish Reading

AP English Language (5), AP Calculus BC (5), AP United States History (5), AP Spanish Language (4)

Currently taking: AP Computer Science, AP Statistics, AP Spanish Literature, AP English Literature, AP Comparative Government

EC: I'm a cheerleader :) I was on Varsity Golf for two years, Speech and Debate all four years, and uhhh I ride horses heehee

National Merit Semifinalist
Volunteer as a tutor for all four years of high school

anything else you guys want to know?

hahaha I'm so excited!!! Even though I really wanted to go to USC but I didn't get the letter for the scholarship so I guess I didn't get in...but I'm so glad to get the letter from UCLA! hehehe yayayayay my FIRST acceptance! I'm so happy!

To Fallenstar:

About 100 out of the 700 who get the Invite get the scholarship.

Haha yeah I was really happy when I got the letter too. Now I know that, no matter what happens, I can always go to UCLA (Which is not a very bad safety AT ALL!)

I got the letter too. So is it 100% certain that we got in? =D

Yup! 100% gaurantee!

Haha assuming we dont get rescinded because our senior grades aren't TOO bad.

Do we need 2 separate letters of recommendation, or two copies of the same one?

Thanks!

2 separate letters

congrats you guys :)

I got the letter but I'm really confused because my stats are nowhere near as good as all of you guys. I'm already going to CMU so this doesn't really matter to me. (I withdrew my application around a week ago so I guess they hadn't gotten me out of their system yet).

Anyway, I'm OOS, from MD.
ACT=34 (Equivalent to 1520)
GPA= 3.6UW, 4.3W, not sure what UC GPA is
Female, applied to ECE
A bunch of robotics and computer-related extracurriculars

Weird. I guess the scores did it.

Contrary to what's been posted, it turns out that not all students invited to apply for the Regents Scholarship are later admitted. Some are rejected.

Call the number on the letter to confirm this.

Only the top 1.5% of applicants are invited to apply. They have all been prescreened so the chances of rejection are slim to nil. They'll tell you that the inivitation will not necessarily equate to admission because they have to by policy, but 1.5%... unless you really mess up your senior year grade, you can count on the admission.

Got it too! I actually really like the essay question compared to the usual vague and generic "Discuss how your leadship has impacted the world blahblahblah" ones.

Stats:

GPA: UW: 4.0 Weighted: 4.6 UC: 4.3 (capped)
SAT I: 800 R / 790 M / 740 W
SAT II: 790 US History / 790 Math II / 780 Bio (M)
APs: Chem 5 Euro 4 Bio 5 US Hist 5
ECs: 250+ hours of community service
2000+ hours of the usual EC stuff with a dozen wishy-washy leadership positions and a few serious ones
Lab research
Senior year: 3 college classes, 3 APs

I really wasn't planning on going to UCLA but if I do manage to get a full scholarship it's probably worth it. Can anyone tell me how the biochem program is?

Dang I didn't get one... now I have to wait until... March?
Congrats though guys with alot of luck I'll be with you all next year.

It's always interesting to see someone opt for wishful thinking and guesswork over hard facts.

"Slim to nil" is a hope, not a fact. Try 10%.

Call the number.

Well there's the chance that they could be rejected by the Engineering , Arts and Architecture, or Theater departments since they have limited enrollment space, but 10%? Where did you pull that number out of, especially since UCLA does not keep tabs on the students who are invited to apply for the scholarship (<- This is from Gail Ishino who is the undergrad director of scholarships)?

Ok, so I know I kind of procrastinated, but for those of you who got the regents invite: what class are you writing your essay about? Did you find the class the way they told you to in the letter? Is it better for the class to be in your major area? Is there any way to get more information about the classes?

I have a couple of ideas, but I still don't know enough about the classes to write even a 250 word essay.

I guess this is a pretty late response, but I just wanted to know if all of the UCLA Regent's invites have been released already. If people haven't received them by now...then do you think they probably did not get the invite?

They have to have all been released, as the essay and recs are due tomorrow.
