...:-/ this is ridiculous

My friend got in... she received a call from the admissions representative offering her admission.

3.6 GPA
2060 SAT
African-American female

Meaningful extracurriculars. No, not "Math team", or "Science Olympiad". Rather stuff like SEED (Students educating each other about discrimination), Varsity Sports, Youth Senate, lots more

Wrote one of those "pity me because i'm black" essays.

Anyways, she's not going there. Doesn't want to be at UPENN. Doesn't like the type of students at the school.

are you kidding me? one less spot because she applied, despite not wanting to go

Seriously, **** her. Why did she apply in the first place?

She applied ED too... she applied ED to Boston U, Georgetown, and Penn. And she's trying to get out of them now, lol.

She liked Pennsylvania, but the thought of going to a school with so many people smarter and nerdier than her didn't appeal to her. Very social individual. Looking into Penn State and Michigan instead. Wants athletics.

good luck getting out of ed... if she's gonna try for umich, penn's gonna flip a ****

She already got into Michigan.

Wow, i think this story is a bit farfetched personally, but it could be true?, I would never apply ED to 3 schools and then renege on Penn for Mich...

Congratulations to your dumb friend. She just screwed your school out of ever having another successful applicant to Penn, Georgetown and BU.

Oh yeah, and this story is starting to lose credibility.

Wow, you guys are just giving me more reasons to believe her when she says she doesn't want to go there because the students are too competitive. Come on. One spot isn't going to make a difference. And you're crazy and too into college admissions if you believe it does. A student revoking their ED isn't going to place a label on a school. Not when we send the amount of students to Ivies that we do. And someone who got into Penn isn't "dumb".

georgetown is EA

A2Wolves - why did Penn call your friend early to let her know? Is she a recruited athlete? It sounds like they weren't sure about her coming to begin with and wanted to verify the acceptance before tomorrow. If that's the case, it doesn't affect anyone here.

tell her congradulations... your school is never sending another person to Penn.

A2Wolves: I think everyone's just talking about the fact that your friend applied ED to three schools and is now trying to back out of all of them. Some of us worked really hard and applied ED to get into our top choice school. Your friend doesn't even want to go to the schools she's applied to ED. It's just annoying to know that there could be dozens of people out there doing the same thing and taking spots that should be reserved for those who actually want to go to the schools.

tell penn what she did. she is not allowed to apply to more than one ed school (boston is ed). when we applied, we signed a contract stating that we were not and would not apply to any other school ed, because early decision is a binding contract. if penn finds out that she applied to two schools ed, they will automatically retract their acceptance. in addition, they will contact boston u, and they too will retract her acceptance. other schools (aka the ivies) will also probably be notified. although this will not improve our chances (her admittance DOES equal one deferral, exspecially because penn is decreasing their class size this year), she will be getting what she deserves.

This doesn't sound like the usual situation to me. Penn does not make a habit of calling people ahead of time to see if they will accept the offer, unless it's something like a recruited athlete. If that's the case, it's not a true binding ED application.
