UCSB is still #45 but UC Davis dropped to #48. So it's UCB>UCLA>UCSD>UCI>UCSB>UCD>UCSC>UCR now...... I bet some of you are happy to pick UCSB over UC Davis....See you incoming freshmen next month!

I'm kind of miffed that adding TWO Nobels for a grand total of 5-the same as UCLA(which has many more professional/grad schools)-did nothing rankings-wise. Maybe the positive fall-out still hasn't happened.

UCSB moved up once space among public schools to #12 :)

I predict there will be a ranking gain for UCSB next year. It might get a little nudge by the fact that average enrolled SAT scores for the Fall 2005 class went up from 1182 last year to 1200 this year. The rankings use the Fall 2004 class.

Happy to pick SB over Davis now? Right, because of a number change in a $5 magazine. Well, if that makes you happy, all the more power to ya. But I feel sad for the person who picks SB over Davis because of a completely subjective number rank rather than campus quality, research opportunities, lab facilities, school spirit, and among other things the existence of a D1 football team..

Seems like you're imposing your belief of UC Davis' superioty over UCSB. We have all the stuff you mentioned except for a football team. But guess what, UCSB's got soccer team that kicks ass and runner-up in last year's NCAA Soccer College Cup,,DIV 1 babe! Go Gauchos! I bet you picked Davis over SB partly because of the ranking...I read your post before =)

Let me reconcile all the arguements. UCSB and UC Davis are both great schools. I had such a difficult time deciding where to go, because each school was incredibly special in it's own way.

If it werent for people like wellendowed and yen these type of arguments would'nt come up. But I'm not going to sit here and let them come to the Davis boards and whatnot and just bash us without saying anything fully justified in return.

So, wellendowed, I dont quite think SB has "all the stuff I mentioned." Davis is the number one school in California(if not the nation, cant quite remember the accolade) in terms of research opportunities. We have a brand new, state of the art, unlike any other in the state, biological lab facility intended solely for the use of undergrads. After campus visits and tours I can honestly say SB spirit is no where near that of Davis'. Visit Picnic Day, the largest student run spirit oriented festival in the nation, and you can see that for yourself. While SB chairmen are running around trying to gather as many nobel laureates as they can were spending our money on brand new facilities for our students.

Oh, and btw, every single soccer team in California combined doesnt get the amount of media coverage one Californian football team(Raiders, Chargers, etc) gets. So you can rep your soccer team as much as you want, but to put it bluntly, football's where it's at.

After typing this all out I'm ashamed i've wasted my time in such a pointless argument, so ill just leave it at this, but I'm not taking anything back. My apologies to chill people like rc..

Pardon me but I don't consider my post " bashing".....

" Ouch! Cows might have smelled really bad when US News reps went to check out your campus LOL Sorry, couldn't keep it to myself heheh But yep, next year most of the students who will have to choose which mid tier campus to attend will only pick UCD if they have friends who go there...That's just reality."

Read it again megathunder...It sure doesn't sound condescending. But hey good luck to you. Everything you hear about Davis is still hearsay as you haven't even started school there yet.

About football, I didn't even know Davis has a football team...they must really stink so bad that they aren't even on the sports section. What's your point?

"After campus visits and tours I can honestly say SB spirit is no where near that of Davis' ".

Well, I'm sorry but you don't get to experience the real UCSB spirit on a tour. What you see is just skin deep so you can't really compare. And you won't know the real spirit of Davis unitl you've been there for a year so I guess it's premature to talk about Davis' spirit. Tell me about next year, ok?

The irony is that megathunder hasn't even started school yet, and he has all this pride for his school to the point where it's unhealthy (expected from many freshmen). He can't stand it when people "talk bad" about his school. Now with the US rankings out, i'm pretty sure he's iffed up.

Chill out megathunder, this isn't high school anymore.

To be honest Mega, some of the posts you've made recently make it seem like you're not sure if you made the right decision and are trying to tell other people that Davis great to convince yourself. Maybe that's not how it is and you're just really excited about the school, but that's how you come off.

Hey listen guys. We need to just face it. All three schools are about the same academically as much as you want to argue about it. Davis maybe ranked lower some years, higher other years.....It is still ranked higher by the prestige poll than the other mid-tier UCs: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=91215&highlight=davis

The point is....The difference academically is so negligible, that you should choose whichever university you'd like for a different reason. I think this applies to pretty much any UC. Choosing UCM>UCB maybe a tough decision, but anything short of this huge academic gap (at least now) should be based on a different factor. UCD needs to find out what happened and fix it for next year.....In the mean time UCD's sports teams will kick some major behind! Go Aggies! You'll love UCD and in my opinion it's the best UC in the system. I chose it over UCSD. And we'll be sure to find you SB-ers in the Thunderdome where the Ags will give you a run for your money with some left over D2 players!

"It is still ranked higher by the prestige poll than the other mid-tier UCs"

Any sane American knows that prestige rankings you mentioned is BS. Harvard No.4 in prestige???? Gimme a break =)

Aside from this meaningless argument which mid-tier UC is ranked higher, UC Davis is ranked lower this year due to an ERROR.....that's right ERROR!
Even though this should NOT affect your school of choice, for all you Davis freshman, do NOT feel we are going down. I believe if the stats are correct, UCD should still be "ranked" above UCI or UCSB even though it really doesn't matter. (We are all about the same)
Here is the article:
http://www.californiaaggie.com/article/?id=10027

Hahah.... just another lame excuses. =) Wait till it plummets behind UCSC next year lol

Awww, are you sad that in reality we are still ranked higher? As my boy ucdrox mentioned, it doesnt really matter but you guys can now proceed to get back off your pedestal.

"Wait till it plummets behind UCSC next year lol"

First of all, don't insult my fellow slugs, and secondly.....the only thing that
will plummet is your basketball team to UC DAVIS! Oh, and did I mention your football team? Oh wait.....You don't have one! My mistake! Let the rivalry begin here on this thread......
Go Aggies and see you in the Thunderdome!

LOL...UCD football team? What a waste of money. Your team stinks! lol Who cares if you have a football team? Even SBCC has it... big deal! Our soccer team rocks!!!! Did I mention live coverage on ESPN? heheh...

"UCD football team? What a waste of money. Your team stinks!"

Stinks? With all due respect, I wouldn't consider 35 straight winning seasons too shabby? We're playing Stanford this year (PAC-10 team) on September 17th and we actually BEAT them at a scrimmage in Stanford 2 years ago. Wouldn't consider the gold and blue bleeding aggie football team to stink.....Love the SB beach though and see you on Halloween!

And what exactly is the UC Davis' ranking in football? Gazzilion? lol Stanford's football team stink too! What's the big deal about playing another stinky team? Vying for the most stinkiest team? lol

Cripes wellendowed. Give it up..

Drox, let it go, man. Leave her to her dead board..
