i'm goin to the dodge college dessert reception. altho i don't know how long it lasts, i'm sure i will be done in time for my 7 pm flight home, heh

Has anyone visited the school yet? What are your impressions of the school? When you go to the reception could you write about your visit? My older son was accepted 2 years ago but we didn't come out to visit. Was wondering if campus is as nice as it looks.

I got in the BFA in film production.

My son is going to the dessert reception after all. Sideways, he and I attended Discover Chapman Day last year and thought the campus was very pretty and the facilities quite nice. It has a fairly suburban feel to it, not a huge amount going on in the immediate area. Our nephew is also a sophomore at the film school and really likes it. Oh, and congrats, frumpix!

Writermom, how does your son feel about all the lab fees required? Does the school typically give extra scholarship money to film students to offeset these OUTRAGEOUS fees?

Do you know how much a year typically a student has to pay extra for these film fees?

Thanks for the info,
Corey Clark

by the way, for any hopefulls out there. If you are PASSIONATE and can write there's hope for you to get into Chapman even if you went to public school for four years and have a bare minimunm 3.0 GPA like me.

Frumpix, I wish my son cared more about the costs of things! :) You're right, film is an expensive major, as acknowledged by Chapman:
"Keep in mind film is an expensive major. In addition to tuition, film students also pay lab fees to cover the cost of such things as film stock, film processing, etc. Lab fees can be found in the course descriptions. Also, students are responsible for developing budgets for each of their film productions. Budgets vary depending on the type of production a student chooses to undertake. While lab fees cover film stock and processing, they do not cover additional costs such as costumes, props, craft services, etc. Furthermore, if a student chooses to make a film independent of a class, he or she will assume full responsibility for the cost of the project."

I checked the fees associated with the production classes, and it looks like most are around $300. So for a guesstimate, if you were to take 3 classes per semester that cost $300 (probably more than you'd actually take), x 8 semesters, well you can do the math. I'm guessing (just guessing) it would be somewhere around $5-6K extra for your 4 years. But that would be a great question to ask someone at Dodge. And no, I don't think they provide "extra" scholarship money for this--your scholarship is what it is in your offer letter.

ooooops, sorry--posted the wrong link in above message. Should be http://ftv.chapman.edu/prospective/undergraduate/faq_undergraduate.cfm

I got an email from Chapman inviting me to the Dodge college reception, so I assume that means I was accepted to the film school. It said "Congratulations on your early admittance to Dodge College" and came like a week after my admission to Chapman. Woo! now lets hope for some money... If you're waiting for news from Chapman you should hear it really soon if you already havent.

I got that message too. Congrats dude, i'll see you next year.

still decision pending... im pretty much assuming rejection now

We heard last week. On the webAdvisor. Now waiting for packet. Hope it comes soon. I'm sure you'll hear soon. They had misplaced part of app. so we had to send copies. It took a little longer for the decision but it did come pretty quickly after they had it all. Good Luck!

Did you all apply EA? Does anyone know when the RD candidates hear?

Can i have someones opinion

they requested my 7th semester and i sent it 3 days ago

now the web portal says File Complete, Decision Pending

....my gpa gone up...from a 3.50---to a 3.56.....and weighted 3.63....to a 3.66

....do you think they will accept me?

I got invited to Dessert with Dodge too, but I can't go, but at least I can go to Discover Chapman, haha it'll be funny to know that fellow cc ppl will be there, but I'll have no idea who you all are.

1koolguy, I'm asking for a friend who applied RD and hasn't heard yet. They were told that Chapman only takes the higher stat students EA and everyone else is rolled into RD. You must have been rolled over into RD. They are looking for higher stats, in the 3.7 range or higher first. Their average GPA was 3.7 for this year's freshman class, which means they take some students with lower GPAs. I believe they use the weighted grades but don't look at electives, however you can call the admissions office to be sure. I couldn't find any information on when they notify RD applicants.

I was just informed that I am in a small group of early applicants that they are having a difficult time making a decision for. The Admissions counselor told me that I would probably find out by Mid-March but that they are doing re-evaluations, etc. I'm guessing it's a tight pool of applicants trying to get those last spots, but I don't know what they consider "small"

I was informed in a response from an email I sent requesting a status update since I was having trouble using the Webadvisor.

What are your stats Wingx?

I sent in my 7th semester grades as they requested and now my status changed to "File Complete, Decision Pending" I may be on the same boat as you

Has anyone received a Talent Scholarship yet?

has Talent Scholarship info even been released?? I called when I got accepted and they said there would be info with my film school acceptance, but I just now realized there was no info.

There was no info. i think the only info you will receive is when the film school sends them out. I guess they haven't done so yet. Maybe they wait for regular decisions to be sent.
