I also hope that some of you with not so great SAT scores, like me, look at my stats and realize that SATs truly aren't everything. Congrats to my fellow Hoyas Class of 2012, I can't even describe how excited I am. See you on the hilltop!

Counselor Rec: I'd also say pretty good considering we know each other well
Hook: Well I'm Arab (Half Lebanese/Half Egyptian) and have dual citizenship from Egypt so I'm a pretty unique minority. Also, I've got some extensive traveling experiences (over 40 countries)

Personal:

Subjective:

Essays: I felt they were colloquial, but I wanted to convey a message that sounded like it was coming out of my mouth. Topics weren't that unique, and I think my College essay sounded really brochure-y. My EC essay (I really liked) took up the whole space before the font got smaller, and my other 2 essays were around 530 words a pop.

Teacher Recs: I got them from the teachers that knew me best. Both are extremely good writers. My counselor apathetically said they were "extremely good" all monotone. (I waived my right to read them)

Counselor Rec: Other guidance counselors have said that she rights really good ones, and I think I'm one of her many (50-100) kids that she knows well.

Interview: I don't know the score, but it was short and sweet. I felt really good about it, and he said he was impressed. I couldn't think of anything to really ask him, so I was afraid that I didn't show interest.

Hook (if any): Hooks? No. Maybe that I'm an Asian male NOT interested in pre-med or engineering?

Location/Person:

State or Country: Long Island, New York

School Type: public, sends few (~10/300-400) students to top schools

Ethnicity: Korean

Gender: Male

Religion: United Methodist (Protestant)

*Extracurriculars: Mathletes top-scorer every year, and president now; NHS secretary; Quiz Bowl captain and founder; Science HS secretary; Tri-M; Language HS; Band captain, first tuba, and 2nd seat in district band; class of '08; 200+ hours volunteering, 100+ from honor society services and sign language shows; Crier newspaper news layout editior.
I've done all of my ECs, pretty much, for 3-4 years.

*Other Factors: This was my first choice at the time of my interview, but I don't know if I told him that. As of this point, it's not number one, but rather tied with another school that used their wiles to win me over.
I've also had ridiculously heavy course loads since 10th grade onwards.

*ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: I felt like I'd be another face in the applicant pool, but I made it! Don't worry if your SATs aren't 2200+ or whatever they tell you--you have a shot!

Decision: ACCEPTED

*School: McDonough (Int'l Business)

Stats:

Rank: Top 3% (My school doesn't go into detail...anyone above 4.0 W is top 3 percent. But honestly, I think i'm in the top 10 out of about 350)

Other stats: 6 AP tests (4 5's, 2 4's) plus all APs this year

Subjective:

Essays: I don't know.... I think I'm kind of a mediocre writer/don't like to write but I spent A LOT of time on my essays and obviously they weren't too bad :) One was about tennis and the other just about business...

Teacher Recs: From my Calc teacher... this is my 2nd year in his class and he likes me and I'm a good student.

Counselor Rec: I think it was pretty good, but not personal because my school's so big.

Interview: I think it went pretty well.... not spectacularly, but solid and conveyed what I wanted.

Hook (if any): Not really.... I'm from Iowa which is kind of underrepresented?

Location/Person:

*ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Good luck to everyone. I stalked my mailman for like 30 minutes while he walked around my street....it was annoying!
