Georgetown seems to love debaters...

Who doesn't? =D

Decision: deferred (SFS)

Stats:

SAT: 2380, 36 ACT

SAT IIs: middling 700s

GPA: 3.8 uw

Rank: top 5%

Other stats: five AP 5s and one 3

Subjective:

Essays: good personal statement. extraordinarily crappy/unfocused/rambling SFS essay (I think this killed me...along with my interview of doom).

Teacher Recs: good, I assume (didn't see).

Counselor Rec: didn't see...she likes me well enough, I guess.

Hook (if any):

Location/Person:

State or Country: Midwest suburb

School Type: public

Ethnicity: Asian

Gender: female

*Extracurriculars: Council, NHS, Science Olympiad, Mock Trial

*ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: does anyone know anything about financial aid at GU? I got into my first choice EA...so the only reason I'd go to Georgetown (if they admit me RD) is if they gave me more aid than other schools.

thanks for everybody that backed me.
i'll agree to disagree with those who didn't.
i'll withdraw my georgetown application (and my other applications) when i know for sure that i'm going to harvard. i haven't even officially gotten accepted. peace.

Thanks token. that was really big of you. everyone is really high on emotions right now and they probably didn't mean what they said but you really are the bigger man.

lmao.

i am applying regular. and this board makes me so unconfident....

you crazy kids with your extremely high SAT scores. i have like the highest scores in my class...

but not high enough. = (

SomethingSilly: I've heard that Georgetown's financial aid is pretty bad compared to other top schools. That opinion is corroborated by the Princeton Review (Georgetown has a financial aid rating of 93, compared with the 98-99 of other top schools), and by the jaw-dropping line in the midst of one of their financial aid pages that says that they expect you to take ALL of your assets into account in contributing to the cost of education at Georgetown, including the value of your home equity. (This is especially disturbing for me, because my family is using a home equity loan to pay off a mortgage... bad debt cycle, I know, but it works out better than a bigger mortgage.) Sadly, I didn't look into that aspect of it enough before I applied - though who knows, I still may get lucky.

But yeah, the moral is: have hope, just not too much :-p

amcd08, don't worry too much. at georgetown EA is based heavily on numbers. they have more freedom in the regular round.

amcd08, I got in EA and don't have that high of scores. I have 690 R/690 M/700 W and then 700s on 2 subject tests. But I think I had a focused application which really showed my interests.

lmao. that's what i mean.

ya'll say you don't have that "high of scores"

but they are WAY higher than me.

i got 600's flat all across the board. subject tests & regular SATs.

oh and i had no idea we had to take 3 subject tests? I definitely only took two. if i took a third one i would probably get like a 450 in whatever it was because there's nothing else i could possibly take and do well at !

haha

I finally got my letter today, so here goes...
Decision:Accepted to the College.

Stats:

GPA:4.3W, 3.9W

Rank:Top 1%

ACT:33(Now 34 but they didn't see it)

Subjective:

Essays:Sadly, I can't remember what they were about...

Teacher Recs:Awesome

Counselor Rec:Great.

Hook (if any): Debater? That seems to be a Georgetown thing.

Location/Person:

State or Country:SD

School Type:Public

Ethnicity:White

Gender:Male

*Extracurriculars:Quite a few top leadership roles.

*Other Factors:

*ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:HOYA SAXA!

I'm looking at people who were accepted and can't help to wonder why I was deferred. I had an ACT of 35, Subject tests of 800,800,700, (4) 5's on APs, 3.8 or 3.9 UW GPA all advanced or ap classes, good teacher recs, good and honest essays and focused ec's.

amcd08, sorry, I'm just so used to everyone on these boards having high scores than me. I only took 2 subject tests, but they might be less lenient and expect you to have 3 by the RD round.
