2007 Football Ticket Policies

USC Reverses Ticket Policy
The university just announced changes in this year's student ticket plan and the availability of seats for next year's games:

Open Letter to the University of Southern California Community

September 26, 2006

ALL USC UNDERGRADUATES WILL BE GUARANTEED OPPORTUNITY TO BUY USC SEASON TICKETS
AT REDUCED COST FOR THE 2007 FOOTBALL SEASON

President Steven B. Sample has directed me and other senior officers of USC to develop a plan in consultation with student leaders that will guarantee that all undergraduate students at USC--all 16,400-- have the opportunity to purchase reserved football tickets for the 2007 season at a deep discount before tickets are made available to the general public.

I am pleased to report that those plans are well underway in discussions with USC’s director of intercollegiate athletics Mike Garrett and with Sam Gordon, undergraduate student government president, and other student leaders. Tickets will go on sale to undergraduates in Spring 2007 for $135.00 per season ticket. This is less than half the price of a regular season ticket.

We will also provide greater access for students for the remaining 2006 football season home games. Associate Vice President for Student Affairs Lori White and Senior Associate Athletic Director Steve Lopes are also working with student leaders to address two additional concerns: reserved seating and safe and orderly entry to the Coliseum.

On behalf of the university, I apologize to all students who were turned away from the Nebraska game or who encountered problems getting into the Coliseum. We did not plan well; we did not communicate well; we did not seek student advice to the degree that we needed to. But we have learned some important lessons that will be put to good use in the immediate future. The university has been rightly criticized for its actions and is addressing the grievances and concerns expressed by students, alumni, and parents.

Following are details of the plans that are being developed:

ACCESS TO TICKETS AND RESERVED SEATING
A. Plan for Undergraduate Student Ticket Access for the 2007-2008 Football Season

• 16,400 seats, the approximate number of undergraduate students who attend USC, will be available for undergraduate student priority purchase. The exact timing of the student season tickets sales is being worked out. Price will be deeply discounted to $135 per student for season tickets in 2007-08. After the exclusive student sales period ends, tickets may be purchased by students and the general public at the regular price for as long as they last.
• The need to purchase a student activity card as a means of gaining seats at games will be eliminated.
• This plan includes a change from general admission seating to reserve seating. We are looking at several options to address the desire of students to sit with their friends.

B. Plan for 2006-2007 Football Season

It was previously announced that the student ticket allocation for the next four conference home games has been increased from 8,000 to 8,600. Student Affairs and Athletics have worked to increase the student ticket allotment to 9,200. We are also working with the Fire Marshall and Coliseum management to add standing room only spots should there be a need for them.

SAFE AND ORDERLY ACCESS TO THE COLISEUM

The department of athletics, Coliseum management and the department of public safety are developing a plan to make it easier for students to enter Gate 28, the main student gate. One change is that the gate will be open two and a half hours prior to game time. We will continue to monitor these improvements to ensure that students have orderly and safe access to the Coliseum.

We acknowledge the critical presence of students at football games and related events. We have listened to the undergraduate student government and other students leaders and will do our best to rectify this situation so that students can continue to share and contribute to the excitement and tradition of Trojan football.

Sincerely,

Michael L. Jackson
Vice President for Student Affairs

Sounds good.

Much better, especially next years plans.

So the Spirit Activities Card give us access to nearly ALL Trojan home games. How will the elimination of this affect other sports such as Basketball? Will our "season tickets" include admission to Galen Center for basketball games? Or will basketball become basically student ID only like it seems to be for other sports such as volleyball?

According to the Daily Trojan, the cost of galen center tickets seems to be extra. Its nice the students will have seats but now the basketball seats will not be included now USC has been gearing up the basketball team.

I am happy the students have seats, but how will they sit with their friends. I know my son has an everychanging group that he sits with every week and they all like to be together. Sometimes he goes with one friend sometimes 15. How can this be accomplished?

I don't know why they just go back to last years seating, open student seating in a nice place, the 50 yard line which they gave to alumni.

Now it appears they are going to be charging extra for the basketball games. They have to pay for that stadium - I don't know it still seems the students are getting less than last year, perhaps someone has a different take.

yay! this is good news for foortball seats! =) I'm not really into basketball so I don't care but I bet there are loads of students who are going to be upset about that so hopefully USC will come up with something for them.

In the past USC has had one of the best student ticket offers of any school in the country. Many schools charge for season tickets for each sport. Often at rates higher than the Spirit Card which enabled students to go to all USC home sporting events for a single price of about $135.

As a comparison, students at Notre Dame pay $207 for student tickets for just the football games. The basketball, hockey and other sports tickets are extra.

They should keep the price for students low to encourage turnout . . . particularly for the basketball team in their new home.

Yeah, I read about that in the DT on my way to class today. I hope they don't charge a whole lot more for basketball and other sports. How do they expect to keep up student attendance for other sports?
