Advice: Make your essays amazing. I spent 2 weeks writing them over and over again and constantly revising. I must have gone through 5 completely revised drafts before i was satisfied. Your reasons for transferring have to be outstanding, and you have to communicate them well. You need to walk a fine line to show why you want to go to another school without bashing your old one. No one wants to hear a complainer. Be honest. As far as recs go, try to get close with your profs- come in at office hours, discuss the material outside of class. Theyll start to like you alot, and not only does it help when theyre deciding whether or not to bump you up but it provides you with heartfelt personalized recs. Dont worry too much about hs grades, what they want to see the most is improvement. I ****ed around big time my first 2 years in hs. Overall, try to come across as an intellectual, deep individual. Thats what the big schools want more than anything else.

Congrats clive 126!

what were your reasons for wanting to transfer? Did you focus on ONE reason?

Here are the reasons i want to leave my school:
1) No.1 party schol in the country- waaay too much drinking aorund me.
2) Huge classes- very hard to be engaged in lectures or get to know professors
3) Very little research opporunities for non-honors students
4) Unflexible engineering curriculum(I'm in chemical engineering). Required to take technical writing, speech and restrictions on the kinds of electives we can take.
5) Not diverse at all. White people EVERYWHERE.It's a bit unsettling/uncomfortable

Should i focus on the academic reasons?

great reasons to leave but you'll also want to really focus on the positive aspects of the place you're applying to...and don't come across as whiny. so I take it you're at UT?

Yeah I wont be whiny in my essays. I'm at Penn State- should've said ONE of the biggest party schools- weekends start on wednesday night over here.

whats your major, jna?

^^ double majoring in economics and statistics

I'm sorry jna :( I know you wanted Chicago -- you'll do wonderfully at Davis. Best of luck.

^^ thanks for the kind words rainmanoutofsnow. i appreciate you taking the time to post. while i felt chicago would have been a great fit for me, i'm satisfied and pleased to be able to attend a school like davis. i hope chicago works out for you, and i'm positive you will succeed. enjoy your time on campus, and once again, congratulations on your admission. if each accepted applicant has the same great stats as you, and exhibits half as much class as you've shown, i can take solace in knowing i was passed over for a class consisting of world class students. good luck to you in your future endeavors, and i hope financial aid comes through for you in a big way :)

Your absence is Chicago's loss and Davis's gain. Again, best of luck there and thanks a thousand times.

lol something a/b transferring into Wharton is so impressive, even compared to all of these other awesome places. I dunno what it is. Congrats.

Brand: WSU is a great school !!! Are you planning on attending it?

U know what will be really funny: I get rejected from ROSS... lol I will tell every1 about if I get into Ross or not:)

WSU?! I hope you're not talkin a/b Washington University in St. Louis ;) I got in there, not Washington State University. But I'm probably headed to Wesleyan University.

Lol if you get rejected from Ross u should tell everyone that asks a/b your results..."well, I was rejected by Ross." and they'll be like "oh I'm sorry to hear that etc." and then you can softly and nonchalantly say "but I did get into wharton."
