Likely Attending: Northwestern (econ). I am so excited, as I was rejected during freshmen admissions along with 14 other top schools! All I can say is for people to persevere to attain what they really want. After the first round of freshmen admissions, I thought I was useless, but I guess I'm not after all, haha jk. Goodluck to everyone and congrats to everyone who succeeded in transferring!

Still looking for actual results of students who were rejected as freshman admits and ended up getting accepted as sophomores. Also, the reasons why you think you were rejected initally, and accepted later on. thanks!

sunshadow: waitlisted to nyu-stern freshman year (which was a bit of a surprise to me) but probably because of lack of sat ii scores; accepted sophomore year. reason: school i was coming from had many students who were admitted to stern as freshman but chose not to attend. competition perhaps? i also took another subject exam my second month of college, scored an 800.

Waitlisted from Vanderbilt as a freshman, accepted as a Junior.

Reason why: my high school is a pretty generic public school in Ohio, not great. My SATs were low for Vandy (1240/1600) but my college GPA was high at 3.9, plus I had good essays, good recs, and a lot of passion for the place.

Ha! Thanks you guys! It is incredibly helpful for those students who were rejected outright from a dream school to know they still have a shot in transferring.

Rejected to ND as freshman, and accepted as Soph. transfer.

Reason why: I dunno exactly why, but here are my thoughts: Transfer admission is easier than freshman admission at ND. Also, test scores are less important for transfer admission and mine weren't particularly high. I applied for transfer while attending an university that is rated higher than ND in US news, which may have helped a bit. And lastly and perhaps most importantly, my 3.6 GPA was high enough.

Hmmm...it does seem that the GPA when trying to transfer is critical, so much more so than the high school test scores, although I know they cannot be discounted completely. It seems that some people, once they are rejected, develop such an anger for the school that they don't even want to hear the name of the school anymore! Those of you who did not let the rejection stop you deserve a lot of credit.

Wow just look at all of those Cornell rejections from ppl with excellent stats...

This year was the worst according to Common Data Sets for Cornell Transfers for Fall 07, it usually hovers around ~28%, it was a solid 22% this time around.
