2007 PSAT Scores

Apparently you can only access quickstart with a code, those without a code cannot see their scores?

Correct. The code happens to be found only on the paper copies distributed by the schools.

My only child is a sophomore in high school. Back when his father and I were applying to college, we only took the SAT. One of his teachers recommended he take the PSAT this year and so he did. He got his scores today:

CR 71
M 67
WS 73

98% percentile

It sounds good to me. But reading here it seems like there is a lot of info about reading these scores that I don’t know.

Also, he is correctly listed as being in 10th grade but incorrectly listed as enrolling in college in 2009. Is there a way to get that corrected or should I not worry about it?

Thank you.

It’s worth getting all the dates correct. That has to do with National Merit Scholarship selection for juniors.

What does everyone think the commended cutoff will be this year? Is it always the 97th percentile?

Last time NY’s cutoff was 219, so, cross your fingers that it hasn’t gone up, lol. If anyone else wants to see previous cutoffs, I found them here:

Thanks, I will get that changed.

pugmadkate: the semifinalist cutoff for Texas last year was 215. If your child got 211 as a sophomore, chances are they’ll do much better as a Jr. Keep an eye on this because there is a lot of scholarship money in Texas for National Merit Finalists. The only score that counts for this is the one in their Jr. year.

okay, well i know i bombed the psat in nj, i got a 220 with a perfect score in math, normally in practice (even at princeton review) i was getting 230’s and above often.

just to ease your nerves, i was looking at the national percentiles and i wanted just to calculate for everyone the number of students (approx) who got each score…

                    • and so on, and so forth…

as you know though, the cutoffs are different for each state, but dont be bummed out if u have a good score and still do not make it

I scored 207 last year (as a sophomore) with no preparation whatsoever. I’m still nervous, however. My school is distributing scores Thursday morning.

If I got a 219 in Pennsylvania and last year’s cutoff for NMSF in my state was 214 (down 3 points from the previous year), what is chance I will qualify for NMSF?

i’m going to be receiving my scores first thing tomorrow in school.
I am sooooo nervous considering the fact that one wrong in writing brought the score down to already a 760, and for math a 750 i believe.

I skipped 2 in the math section! ughh and i need at least a 700 in all my sections .. to qualify for the national merit scholar? is that right?

That’s what my guidance counseler told me.

Hmmms, will post my scores [if they’re good] on here tomorrow. maybe.

so mcuh anxiety right now.

Alright, would a 220 PSAT in CT be enough for semi-finalist? I read somewhere that 217 was enough last year…

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/4741022-post493.html</a></p>

chart of last years cutoffs that godfatherbob posted above.

can you use your access code from last year?

How did you come up with those numbers?
Because according to this, you reach a total of 50,000 students when you hit 220 and if the National Merit Corporation only recognizes the top 50,000 high scorers as being semi-finalists or commended, that would mean that anyone with a score lower than 220 would not qualify as either, but as demonstrated by state cutoffs from previous years, that is clearly not the case, so I’m a little confused. Raneff, can you please clarify?

I think the key phrase in that post was “# of students who scored as high or higher than you”. So 110 people scored 240, 231 people scored 239 or higher (so 231 -110 = 121 people scored 239), etc. It doesn’t hit 50,000 until 195.

I got a Selection Index of 218, 99th percentile in New Jersey. From the Semifinalist Cutoff Scores 2007 thread, NJ looks to be one of the top scorers in the nation: semi cutoff of 221 in 2006, 219 in 2007. What are the chances it’ll drop another point or so and I could get in?

The actual cuttoff for 2008 Batch (2006 PSAT) are

[National Merit Scholarships](http://www.collegeplanningsimplified.com/NationalMerit.html)

I got my scores back today:
CR 71
M 72
W 73 (2 wrong…what a curve!)
Selection Index 216
99th Percentile

Connecticut

Collegeboard website says that it’s too early to go review scores online, but they should have the score-projection feature and those other handy tools this week.

Any thoughts?
