my D got a 209-CA … I am very happy!!! So is she

222

78 Cr [-1]
69 M
[-3, omit 1]
75 W [-1]

extremely harsh curve…but i’m a semi finalist nonetheless…

Is the grading curve by state? Because I missed 1 in CR and got a 79, and -2 in W, and got a 73. What the ***? miss one on WR, and get -5, miss another and only get -2 more?

wednesday and saturday curves are different…I’m guessing you took yours on wednesday (I’m a saturday test taker).

yeah, I took it on a Wednesday (lucky me I guess :)). Weird, cuz last year our counselor gave it to us on a monday. The packet even said - Monday version. What’s up w/ that?

Monday???..I had no Idea that there was a monday version…was the wednesday test date postponed or something?

idk, but the packet said on the front page : Monday, October 23, 2006, this is the official date… blah blah blah. Crazy counselor

201 god awful compared to other people

You’ll make commended.

I finally received my PSAT scores in the mail today: 224 (76 CR, 76 Writing, 72 Math), and am pretty happy with the results. However, while it is indubitable that I will at least be commended, I am uncertain whether I will receive Semi-Finalist status, as I live in MA (which I believe has the highest cut-off score). Does anyone know for certain what the cut-off score was for the class of 2008 for MA? If so, please post! Thank you very much.

By the way, on a side note, my PSAT score was eerily identical to my Dec. 1 SAT score: 2240.

This is my first post so some patience is requested! My junior daughter got a 224- 73R,75M,76W. She attends a private school near Nashville. I assume she will make Semifinalist for our state?
If and when she gets the letter asking her to name 2 schools for NMSC to contact, what strategically is best for her to do? Name her top choice even if they don’t give any college sponsored NMSC scholarships(so she will appear on their radar screen early), or name one that is generous with merit based aid?
What is all the talk about curves being different for Wednesday vs. Saturday? She took the PSAT on Wednesday.
Thanks for any help, clarification and advice

“i’ve heard that people generally do way better on the PSAT than the SAT. is this correct?”

-Well, that’s not necessarily true. I got a 236 on the PSAT and 2400 on the SAT. On the PSAT, if you get 1 wrong your score drops like 5 points (ridiculous)…

any tips PKswmr76 for us SAT neophytes?

i heard that people do better on the SAT than the psat..

-lol memorize craploads of vocab

specify maybe? Barron’s? Sparknotes?

I am very proud of myself for my scores, not to brag or anything, they just make me quite happy (although I see I still have room to imporove to keep up with some of you!)

Does anyone have advice for bringing up math scores? Obviously, I am better at writing than math, but I usually do well in class, so the score suprised me. I had trouble especially with the geometry parts, which has been my weakest math as of yet. Is there something I could be doing to improve?

just buy a book and review the math section, practice a lot, and don’t make stupid mistakes

im a junior and i got a 205, which is not awesome but needless to say im pleased.

cr: 71 m: 68 w: 68

i know for a fact i didnt qualify for nms, since in my state the cut off is usually 215 ish.

but, i am hispanic, and there is this program through college board called the “national hispanic recognition” or something like that. ive heard that it usually recognizes students from the 190 range to the 210 range. does anyone know anything about it?

with my score, i got 97 percentile. will i get any nonethnicity recognition for that haha?

^ commended scholar
