Hi I’m a Junior and new to this site (although I’ve been lurking around for a few years already, I finally mustered the courage to register today). I just wanted to know if a noncitizen could still qualify for the scholarship. My scores are good enough to pass Georgia’s cutoff (Cr-79, M-80, W-80), but I’m only a permanent resident and a Senior told me I had to be a citizen to win the scholarship. Could someone answer my question? Thanks!

I believe that only US citizens can win the scholarhship.

From the National Merit website:

be a citizen of the United States; or be a U.S. lawful permanent resident (or have applied for permanent residence, the application for which has not been denied) and intend to become a U.S. citizen at the earliest opportunity allowed by law.

There is paperwork to fill out if you are not a citizen - http://www.nationalmerit.org/citizenship.pdf

Thanks! That clarified everything!

Hey, if i already took the SAT back in may, do i have to take it again to qualify for national merit, or will my old score “roll over”.

SAT scores from the two years until your fall of senior year are recent enough for the National Merit Scholarship.

cool thanks for the quick respond!

Im a junior in florida and i scored a 214. I’ve seen places that said the cutoff for fl will be like 216, 219, 215, 214, etc. Can anybody give me a pretty good guess i’ll make it or not?

I got a 231. I think I have to fill out some form if I want to qualify for NMF because I’m a green carder, though.

I’m a sophomore and i took the PSAT last october. Oddly enough, everyone’s scores at my school were distributed in December. I didn’t receive my scores, and I STILL haven’t.

I did have to take the test at another school on Saturday because I missed the test date at my school on Wednesday. The other school said they lost my scores.

I e-mailed the PSAT board or whatever and they replied saying they would forward my e-mail to someone else. It’s been about 3 weeks. Any advice on what I should do?
Am I ever going to know what I got??

Have your counselor contact the College Board - they will probably have better luck.

I finally got my score today. Haha. I got a 206 in Massachusetts, so Commended (98% i got) but not even close to semi-finalist lol.

i got
CR 71
Math 66
Writing 69

sorry for the links not working in my previous post…They were both long links and CC just inserted … in the middle..I have broken it up this time…

For those of you who have been wondering about national percentiles for SI for 2007, you can find it in the link below:

[Understanding 2007 PSAT/NMSQT Scores](<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools)

for comparison with 2006 look at

[Understanding 2006 PSAT/NMSQT Scores](<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools)

my preliminary assessment is that for most states the semifinalist cutoff will not change from 2006…

Just a tip: for some long URLs you have to use BB code to mark the long URL around some anchor text, like this:

[ url = reallyreallyreallylongURL ]title of Web page[ / url]

except without the extra blank spaces I inserted in the codes to make the codes visible. That’s how I fixed the long URLs above, by making them explicit hyperlinks around the titles of the documents.

Thank you tokenadult…Thank God I had added the links to my favorite pages when I originally saw them in collegeboard.com…It is difficult to locate these things in that website…

Tokenadult:..I posted the same message in two other PSAT threads..Is it possible to rectify those also please?

No, but it does look like the percentiles changed –
look, from 2006 according to those links:
the lowest score that was considered 99th percentile for juniors was:
CR: 73
M: 77
W: 72
overall 222

and in 2007:
CR: 72
M: 74
W: 74
overall 220.

.. dnno if that’s any difference, actually. does anybody feel like commenting at all?

sorry, but on the understanding scores thing, what do they mean by “99+” ?

^^ the upper .5 % or 99.5% and above percentile. imo if you recieve one of these, you’re set for semifinalist

papercrane, i’m not sure if those national percentiles have relevance to NMSF, which is based on state.

where can you find out how many people got 240? I’ve seen that 222-240 is 99+ but that’s it.
