2008-09 Academic Calendar

Here's my stupid question for the day:
The 2008-09 academic calendar shown on the Chapman website

Chapman University - Academics - Calendars - 2008-2009 Orange Campus Calendar

shows a Fall Term 2008, Interterm 2009, and Spring Term 2009.

Do students just attend the Fall term and Spring Term? Is Christmas vacation from December 13 to February 2? I am trying to get ahead of the curve and make plane reservations before airfares get too high but I'm not sure if I am reading this correctly.

Thanks.

This was one of our questions, too! The interterm is like a mini-semester that is held during the month of January. The dorms are open and the tuition is included in the fall tuition (I think it's the fall). So, either you go back and take a class during the interterm or you have Christmas break until February 2nd.

Some study abroad classes are scheduled during the interterm, so that's another option for using that time.

Thanks, Timely.

Do you know if the film school will want the students to hang around during that period? Perhaps my son should call on Monday.

Another approach is to buy him a one-way flight now for his freshman start-of-school, since you know that date. By late September, he'll know much more, including his final exam schedule, and be able to ask about winter Interterm options from his faculty advisors and upperclassmen as he meets them. Then you can consider booking roundtrip flights that start from California, or just stay with one-ways.

Not all airlines offer bargains for roundtrips. My idea of a bargain is not this: double the cost of the one-way! After awhile I just began using one-ways.

Son is a rising sophomore. Last year, he still didn't know his final exam schedule by late September, so I just booked a flight home after the last exam date listed. Sure enough, he had an exam around 2 p.m. on the very last day. If he hadn't, he would have just rested up until the December flight date.

Best wishes to a happy beginning at Chapman U!!

Thanks, Paying3. I appreciate the input from someone who has been there and done that. I am trying to avoid the ever-increasing air fares and book something now. But I don't want to be hasty and wind up having to change the dates.

When we went to the Preview Day, they said that sometimes the film students sign up for a course in location shooting over the interterm. Then they go somewhere and work on the crew of a student film for the month. I think they said once they were in the Arizona desert. I assume that none of them would be too far away.

The film school won't care if they are hanging around unless they are enrolled in a class. Now if they hear about a fim that will be shot during that time and they have an opportunity to work on it, then they might want to stay.
