Yesterday was my daughter's first audition. She spent the entire day at Elon starting with taking an acting class. It was supposed to be taught by a teacher but he wasn't there. The kids that taught it were terrific. And while I'm talking about the MT kids at Elon, let me say, one in nicer than the next. By the way, I met "Eric" of Eric's mom -- a very nice young man. He even mentioned his mom during the question and answer session. After the kids had the acting class, they danced (warm-up and then taught dance routine). After that they had a question and answer session and then the auditions. It was just as expected but very low key as there were only about 20 kids auditioning yesterday. The atmosphere was very relaxed and I think it helped with everyone's audition.

Anyone else have an audition experience they want to share so we can see what to expect at each of the schools?

racmom - So glad you had a great day at Elon! I'd love to hear from you by e-mail if you'd like to talk or ask other questions. Thanks for the nice comments about my son. He really enjoys helping prospective students at auditions.

I've heard privately from one other person and hope any of you will feel free to e-mail me using the drop-down menu on my name. This is the best and quickest way to reach me, as these days I have a hard time getting to CC on a regular basis.

Good luck to all of you!

Anyone going this Friday to the audition? We're going to see Sweeney Todd and would love to meet you, so e-mail is good!

racmom-could you elaborate a little on the dance portion of the audition. Unfortunately my D had a slight ankle injury last night and she is out of dance for 1-2 weeks. Elon is her first audition on Nov. 21 which her doctor said should be fine but naturally she's an emotional mess. If the dance portion is really strenuous we are thinking about changing her date, however, we REALLY wanted Elon as her first audition since we have heard how nice everyone is. (Not to mention the cost of changing our travel plans.) Any info would be helpful...

The dance routine consisted of warm-ups and then they were taught a dance. I believe my daughter said they broke up into smaller groups to then perform the dance. They were asked one at a time if they knew some type of tap (I wish I could be more specific here but I'm not sure what it was) and that was it. I will have my daughter read this later and have her add anything if I am too far off on what happened during the dance portion of the audition. If this helps at all, I know one of the girls that auditioned on Friday aparently had an operation on her leg recently and I think she was fine during the dance portion. As I said, they really do make the kids feel comfortable. When my daughter said that she hadn't had tap the lady said that was fine they could always teach them.

Just got back from my Point Park audition. Overall, it was VERY organized and well set up. The first part of the day consisted of a tour and information session. All of the current students I encountered could NOT have been nicer! After the information session, the singing and acting portion took place. And right after that, we had a dance call (ballet combination). The dance wasn't too difficult. They said they didn't really weight it very heavily anyways so we were told to just have fun with it. After the dance call, they provided lunch to the auditionees and parents, which I found to be VERY nice. A list was then posted of finalists who they wanted to see again. Some were called back for the acting, some musical theatre. I actually got called back for both, which made a crazy afternoon for me! The MT callback consisted of about 8 people and they looked through my book and picked out 2 different songs for me to sing. The acting callback consisted of another monologue. Everyone pretty much was done by 2:30-3.

Overall, it was a GREAT day! I had a wonderful experience and I'm so happy it was my first audition!

NMR, Point Park gives you a yes (perhaps accompanied by a nice talent scholarship even), no and even a deferred notice within weeks upon auditioning!

For those who don't get asked back for a "callback" that day, the journey is over right then and there however. A bit harsh, even for those who knew that going into the audition, so be prepared that this may happen, and remember that not "all schools can accept everybody" :D.

In some cases, University of the Arts also lets students know rather quickly. My D was fortunate enough to get good news from that wonderful program with a few weeks of her Dec. 1 audition. (Unfortunately, another young person we know got her "no" the same day and we know at least one other kid who didn't hear anything that quickly.)

So, yes, there definitely are programs out there with rolling admissions. It's very nice, I think, to be able to go into the winter holiday season with a "yes" under one's belt, knowing one has somewhere great to go.

We're back as well. Point Park was just as MusicisLife described. Very well run audition. My D was one of the ones called back for MT. She was very pleased and she was told that she would hear in two weeks. I would recommend to those auditioning at Point Park in the future to bring MORE music than asked for as the auditioneers (?) used some of my D's music for some of the auditionees that had not brought enough (at the callback MasterClass).

CMU's audition experience on Sunday was fantastic. My D had no real positive or negative feelings for CMU BEFORE the audition, but AFTERWARDS she said that it would be her "top choice" even though she knows she should not have one (especially with CMU's odds!). I will post more about CMU tomorrow because we just got home from a long day of traveling and I need to unpack.

My D felt very prepared for both auditions and I have to thank all of you at CC because we learned so much about the audition process last year from reading all of your posts, so thank-you!!!!

TXKatsmom, I think I met you! I think I was wearing the yellow shirt/black pants and I'm pretty sure I was sitting next to you at the table during the information session in the beginning of the day! I think I remember you saying you were from Texas. Small world!! Best of luck to your daughter! I didn't get to see her perform at the callback, but I'm sure she was great!

Hi musicislife!! Yes, we did meet (I liked your yellow blouse...good choice! :) ) Wasn't that an exciting day?

I forgot to mention that there was a music theory test that morning BEFORE the dance audition. We got there right on time (9am) and my D ended up having only a few minutes to do the theory test (which is only for placement purposes if accepted to the school). If we had gotten there earlier she would have had plenty of time. So get there early if you are auditioning at Point Park!
