Has anyone (student and/or parent) received their bill via email yet? UD's website said they were sending them first week of July and neither my son nor I have received anything yet.

We didn't get our bill yet either.

My daughter is able to view her bill on her student site, but we have not yet received it via our e-mail. I called UD to ask why and they said that the bill was forth coming at any time to our e-mail.

(For any other freshman parents - the housing deposit is indeed supposed to be deducted from your bill. UD's new system was having a problem with this deduction, they addressed the issue when I phoned them.)

Our bill arrived by email today. The housing deposit was deducted already.

Where is everyone ordering used books from?

Thanks

We are going to take popsicle's advice and order as much as we can off line. I noticed that our daughter's book list had a lot of that 'bundling' going on. Most of her books were either bundled with a clicker or a CD or some sort of reading guide, which really brought the price up. Had we blindly ordered everything from the campus book store the cost would have exceeded 1400.00!

Tedrco - I see you are coming from overseas. My husband was the military liaison in Tunisia for several years and both of our children attended the International school in Tunis. They loved it. My son, however, decided to attend boarding school in London when he was a sophmore in high school, rather than remain in Tunis, only because he wanted to play American style football and that was not available in Tunisia. He traveled all over Europe with the team. In any event, I hope our daughters run into one another while at UD - they already seem to have a few things in common. They can share stories about life Tunisia and Thailand.

InMD20653,
my son is doing a semester abroad in Tunisia, any advice? He is very excited about it.
thanks.

XXX - Tunisia is a wonderful place; the archeological sites are incredible, simply because they are not roped off, like they are in Rome. Carthage is magnificent - that is where Hannibal lived and is the current location of one of Ben Ali’s palaces. (HA!) It is full of Roman, Byzantine and Phoenician ruins. There is a Tofet just across the street from the local produce markets as well. Dig sites are everywhere and your son will be free to climb down into them. It is quite an experience. The Tunisian people are very nice and helpful, but tell your boy to be mindful of thieves. There is a large ex-pat community in Tunis and he will have the opportunity to socialize with people from all over the world as well as the locals. There is a lot of tourism from Europe and many fine hotels that offer great windsurfing and sailing and just about any other water sport you can imagine to the public. The food is fabulous (make sure he tries the brik) Les Ombrelles, in La Marsa was one of our favorite restaurants. Sidi Bou Said is a great place to buy all sorts of unique local artistry and local snacks. The entire little city is blue and white, it’s wonderful. The Mediterranean is beautiful - he will come home with many fine memories.

Got our bill, and both the tuition deposit, and housing deposit were creditied to my son's account. The bill was very clear in categorizing eaach charge and it included credit for the merit scholarship my son is getting. No complaints there!

Same here.

Hi InMD20653, Tunesia is on my "must see" list for before I die. However, we'll be spending the enxt few years in the good ole USA. First time since 1984!

What's your daughter's major? Ours is doing Fashion Merchandising and actually hopes to double major in Business, but she's been told that she can't work on a double major plan until the second semester.

Hi InMD20653, thanks for the response about Tunisia, I passed this on to my son.

Hi tedrco, holy smokes, 1984! It has been a good long while for you folks. I would love to hear about all of your globe trotting adventures.

Our daughter is majoring in something called Pre-Graduate Art Restoration Studies, and she is minoring in Chemistry. She is going it alone, as no one she knows is attending UD - so maybe we can hook our two up.

XXX....Additionally, I believe that students studying abroad have access to the Embassy compound. That would be worth looking into, because I cannot remember if that is the case. The Marine guards at the Embassy will all be about the same age as your boy - they will be a fun group of guys and will have a good read on the current climate of things in country. GSO always had a ton of fun things going on, such as margarita mexican night at the pool or a pig roast etc. If students are not currently allowed access, let me know, and my husband can make a phone call or two.
