anyone here applying for admission on the RUE program??

Can somebody from the rue program give me a little bit of advice??

nobody???
oh wow

There were only 8-10 RUE students if I remember correctly that were admitted last fall. There just isn't a large pool of RUE students. Sorry I can't be of help.

The RUE program financial aid funding is limited, as far as I know, and the program is not need blind, so that's why they only admit that few amount of candidates; however, if you are under those few admitted will Brown meet your financial need 100% if you qualify?

Yes, if you are one of the lucky applicants that is admitted, you will qualify for Brown's need blind financial aid. But the rue program is virtually impossible to matriculate into...good luck

And why is that?
What makes it so impossible?

I met a few RUE's and am friends with one. I don't know about impossible...

Based on what I've read about rue, it looks like roughly 150-200 people apply to the program each year. The last few years, Brown only accepted 6-8 applicants. Not only that, but Brown doesn't want rue to look like an educational charity. They want the same kind of students in rue as they get in their regular application process...so between the high academic standards, the high number of applicants and the few openings, matriculation is extremely difficult.

I found this site poking around after getting a call from Brown about my RUE application. I was told I was a "finalist" (their word) for admission to the program, and we scheduled a phone interview. From my understanding, not everybody is granted an interview, but does anybody have an idea of about how many "finalists" they actually consider?

I'm super nervous, but I'm trying to prepare myself for the questions, and I think I'll do well. Do any of you have any experiences with the RUE interview process, what their focus is, etc?

My RUE friend told me there's 20-30 finalists, but when I asked him where he heard that, he couldn't remember...Not very many people get interviewed, so congrats! I hope it goes well for you. When did you schedule it for?

6-8? I went through orientation with them and I thought there were more.

Can somebody tell me if only the people they give a phonecall, and tell them they are ''finalist'' are the ones admitted?

Adonis, thank you for the well wishes! My interview is scheduled for tomorrow (Monday) afternoon. And I think you're right--from my obsessive research, haha, 20-30 is what I've seen as well. And yeah, last year only 8 students were admitted through the RUE program.

Transformerz, I'm not really sure...are you asking if when they call you to schedule an interview, if they don't say that you're considered a finalist, you are a less likely candidate? Or are you asking if an interview is required for admission? If it's the latter, I think it says in the brochure that everybody they are seriously considering will be called for a phone interview, but I could be wrong.

I'm curious about what direction the interview will go. I'm sure they'll ask about educational history, why I want to go to Brown, what makes me a good candidate, etc, but other than that I have no clue. It's not really like a conventional interview, as you're speaking directly to the person who makes the decision about your future--or is that true elsewhere? Because I am "nontraditional," I am expecting my interview will be the same. Haha, I suppose I'll know tomorrow.

snizz-how did the interview go?

It went well, I think!

The only thing that threw me off was that he hadn't went over my application yet, so I had planned to elaborate on points that I assumed would be prior knowledge. It ended up that I just kinda had to restate much of what was in my application already, which bummed me out a little--I had a lot more to say!! Haha. He was really nice, and very informative. It was more of a casual conversation, than anything. No specific questions, really.

It lasted about 45 minutes, rather than the 20 he told me it would at the beginning of the interview, so I took that as a good sign.

Overall, I do not exactly know! But I sincerely hope it was good.

Good to hear! Wish you the best snizz. Be sure to post when you find out!

rejected... I was a "finalist" and thought everything was going well. I guess I was wrong...hope you guys do better than me.

Ah, I didn't get in, either.

I also thought everything was going well! I even had a Brown professor "lobbying" for me, haha. I'm thinking about re-applying next year, as the only other schools I applied to were in NY, and I can't really see myself moving back there.

Anybody got a new game plan now?
