<p>“ACADEMY HONORS 13 FOR MAJOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO SCIENCE</p>

<p>“WASHINGTON -- The National Academy of Sciences (NAS) will honor 13 individuals with awards recognizing extraordinary scientific achievements in the areas of biology, chemistry, solar physics, ecology, mathematics, oceanography, paleontology, social sciences, and psychology. </p>

<p>The National Academy of Sciences has announced its 2008 awards. </p>

<p>Among the honorees is Princeton Professor of Sociology Alejandro Portes "for contributions to the understanding of immigrant and transnational communities through penetrating reviews in the areas of immigration, education, globalization, and social capital."</p>

<p>Two other Ivy League professors were honored--Harvard Professor Clifford Taubes who won the prize in math and Cornell Professor Thomas Eisner who won the prize in ecology. MIT came away with two prizes.</p>
