I think most schools accept internationals in theory -- but aid will always be an issue unless they have a policy that states otherwise. I'm not an international student, so I have no idea. If you contact the individual schools I'm sure they'd give you a realistic view of your chances.

Essays -- Idk. Everyone thinks they're good. I thought I was too abstract. I figured adcoms would either remember me for being brilliant or for not reading a single prompt on the application.

Recs - The reason I think I got in.

Double Major - IR + English

If you want my limited advice, here it goes...

I basically tried to submit an application that was interdependent in every way possible. For example, I tied my EC's to my essays and work experience, I unified every single aspect of my application -- the only thing I left out was my SAT's and SAT 2s. I even actually cross-referenced a couple of things.... "See blank and blank." I showed my race not as a statistic or a check mark, but as something tangible and hopefully different.

Btw, I'm Caublihispasian. So don't ask.

I figured that if I did it this way, it would be more complete and my strengths would maybe overcome my many many weaknesses. I have no idea how successful I was, and I don't even know if I would do something that stupid/crazy again but I'm glad it worked out. I went for unique and once in a lifetime, and now I definitely believe in god.

Entering as Sophomore
HS GPA: 3.2 UW/3.6 W
College GPA: 3.65
ACT: 30 (34R/31E/30M/26S)

I got into Bard College because, as they actually told me, my recommendations were outstanding and my essays showed incredible passion for my field (Psychology and Philosophy). I ended up doing Chemistry and Neuroscience instead, and my first semester I got a 3.65 and at midterms I had about a 3.55. I'm really involved, and did research with the Chemistry department. I also did Amnesty International, wrote for the college paper, played rugby, and played in a jam band.

I applied to transfer as Neuroscience/Chemistry/Psychology

Applied: Boston College, Wesleyan University, Vassar College, Brandeis University
Accepted: Boston College, Wesleyan University
Rejected: Vassar College
Waitlisted: Brandeis University

Hook: I am a cancer survivor and underwent chemotherapy treatment all throughout high school until my senior year. I was barely in school most of the time.

Applied to: BU, Tufts, Brandeis, Lehigh, Oberlin, Penn, Cornell, Johns Hopkins
Accepted: Oberlin, Tufts, Cornell, Johns Hopkins, Penn
Waitlisted:
Rejected: Lehigh (hahahahaha)
Revoked:BU, Brandeis

Likely Attending: Tufts!

Advice: My advice is to make your application essays as strong as possible. I went over my creative essays over and over and over again until the language and vocab was just right. As for my "Why transfer" essay, I made it extremely specific as to the university I was applying to. With each problem about my old school, I discussed a clear solution about how the school would better fit my needs. My "why do you want to transfer" essay was not strong but I showed a clear desire that I wanted to attend these schools and because of that I feel that my essay stood out.
I also made great connections with the three teachers who wrote my recommendations. One teacher said I was the best student he had ever had (I remain good friends with him to this day) and another said he was reluctant to write my letter since I was such a good pupil. Make sure you utilized office hours and raise your hand in class constantly-I was the only one to raise my hand in my chemistry and biology classes and I think thats why my letters came out so well.

Anything is possible. I went from having barely any college options as an incoming freshman to having some of the most prestigious universities in the country want me as a transfer.

Current School: Colgate
Entering as: Junior
High School GPA: 95/100 ( weighted :-/ )
College GPA: 3.96
SAT/ACT Scores: 1980? think that's right
SAT II Scores: all around 700 idk
Significant ECs: president of pre-health club, guitar/harmonica, shadowed physician, research at UPenn and Colgate...more stuff I'm not thinking of

Applied to: Brown, Emory, Columbia, Stanford, Georgetown, WashU in St Louis, Johns Hopkins
Accepted: Emory, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins
Waitlisted: N/A
Rejected: Brown, Columbia, Stanford, WUSTL

Likely attending: JHU!

Honestly, I figured as a Junior transfer my SAT's and high school baggage wouldn't weigh me down as much but I think the ivies (and WUSTL which I really had no interest in attending) are just total snobs for stats. Luckily JHU isn't like that, plus they have teh neuroscience and all the pre-med nerdiness I could want and then some.
