2008 tax returns done - what next?

Just finished our 2008 returns and wondering what to do, in what order. My s/d twins have applied to 14 schools between them - I haven't looked at all the fin aid requirements, but at least some of them want you to send the returns to them (though later in the spring.) Should I first update the CSS Profile and FAFSA that I already filed, using the firm 2008 numbers? Then go to all the college sites and find out what they want as far as the returns go?
thanks for any guidance.

I would update FAFSA/Profile to reflect that you filed your taxes first and foremost. I have never had to send in my tax returns to any school. I do know that some schools will have random verification and ask for your tax returns. It doesn't seem feasible to send 14 schools your returns. I would check the schools website for information regarding the returns, though to just be sure.

I think a lot (all?) of schools that require CSS require tax documents. Isn't there something you do through collegeboard - IDOC? - where you send it just once. Check with the FAFSA only schools. Our experience has been that only if you are selected for verification and they request verification forms and documents do do you sent tax anything. Of course we are verified every time!

Collegeboard (IDOC) will notify you through email the process and forms needed to send the CSS profile schools. They are very clear on waiting for these instructions before anything else is done.

Not all Profile schools use IDOC. You need to read the financial aid website for each school to find out what they want you to do. Some schools actually ask for the tax returns as PART of the financial aid process (both of my kids' schools did). Others don't.

Check each college's requirements.

OK, great, thanks to all. More work ahead!
