I never rely on mere opinion. :)

Students at Columbia aren't stronger than the ones at Penn, and they don't place any better either, so I don't see why people assume Columbia> Penn.

we've all come to the conclusion that the OP's rankings are fake right?

Wait... you mean this isn't an argument about Columbia vs. Penn? :p

Well no one has proved the OP's rankings false, but no one has really proved them true, either. They're probably false.

Columbia is small.
Penn is huge.

Columbia is known for their Core.
Penn is known for preprofessionalism.

They are
immensely different.

That's all I have to say.

saying that more kids go to go to penn than columbia out of harvard westlake does not meen that penn is more prestigious or equally prestigious on the west coast. that is ridiculous. think about that logically for a minute. more could be accepted to penn out of harvard westlake than to columbia, especially since penn is easier to get into statistically both in terms of students stats and acceptance rate. and someone also stated that columbias student body was no stronger than penns. might wanna check your facts on that one. and because us news has ranked penn higher than columbia for the past 10 years doesnt meen anything in regards to long term percieved prestige. a lot has been made of penn being ranked far too high on the us news ranking for quite some time, and many, although i am not nec one who agrees, believe this is because the us news founder/or head of us news rankings was a penn alumni. but its ok. keep on believing that penn is as prestigious as columbia. most people here in southern california would think you are nuts. and saying "people in california are stupid" is not really a solid argument against it either. again i would be willing to be a lot of money that that majority (greater than 50%) of students accepted/choosing between penn and columbia, choose columbia, and its probably a lot higher than 51%.

I'd take Columbia based on location alone.

My mom is a Columbia alum and my uncle is a Penn alum. Those are two schools I seriously considered attending for college. Their sphere of influence is considerable, but very different. I think in the Business world and in the Medical world, Penn has a slight edge over Columbia. In the Humanities, Social Sciences and Hard Sciences, Columbia has a slight edge over Penn. Both have a very strong reputation on the East Coast. Internationally, Columbia seems to carry more weight, which I think can be attributed to its location.

Bottom line, both are awesome schools. Any difference in perception or reputation between those two schools is too tiny to entertain if you ask me.

Okay, so Columbia's acceptance rate is lower than Penn's and maybe Columbia is more known in California. Does that make it a better school? Absolutely not. In terms of academics and the education that each school offers, both Penn and Columbia are great, and the differences are minimal. I think it is impossible to say that one is better than the other.
