Good to see that glitch that screwed Davis over last year got fixed.

Hahaha take it irvine.

Ucd: 1030-1280 68%
Ucsb: 1090-1310 53%
Uci: 1080-1290 60%
Ucsc: 1020-1270 80%

...Those aren't the only things that get factored in. UCD people could clarify, but the glitch with Davis involved the Teacher to Student ratio. Apparently, there was a mistake in assuming that a lot of professors weren't certified, making that ration huge and bringing down the ranking substantially.

UCI is more prestigious overall, has a better reputation as well

UCI, UCD, UCSB are all relatively equal. I believe your definition of "prestigious" is being in a affluent SOCAL suburb. Since when have schools in the 40's become "prestigious"?

Wooo, go Davis. I knew we would come back :D..

dasherwinator: umm i don't know where you got that, but so far everybody i've talked to considers irvine to be this new growing school, while davis is a school with a solid reputation and prestige that surpasses irvine. i had to make the choice between davis and irvine, and i actually don't know of any people (teachers, counselors, friends, family, family friends) that would consider irvine more prestigious.

maybe because you're from norcal and it's a bit biased? I'm just guessing you're from norcal.

I'm from norcal and I'm definitely not afraid to say that I'm biased.

My impression as far as prestige goes has always been UCB > UCLA > UCSD = UC Davis > UCSB > UCI > UCSC > UCR

From what I've observed, for socal people it's more like UCB = UCLA (I've seen a lot of socal residents making this argument) > UCSD > UCI = UCSB > UCD > UCSC > UCR.

/shrugs, at least it's fun to be biased. :D

P.S. as a norcal resident, I especially appreciate the strong school pride and spirit associated with UC Davis, more so than the science prowess of UCSD.

I'm from socal and I'll say CAL > UCLA > UCSD > UCI = UCD = UCSB > UCR = UCSC

I just like to **** voiceofreason off by saying bad things about ucd. =) Davis does seem to have more school pride than uci.

Think about next years rankings. The acceptance rate from 06 was 68% and the acceptance rate from 07 was 55%. 13% should boost our rating quite a bit. Not to mention the $100 million grant we recieved for a nursing school. Rankings should turn out quite well for UCD next year.

I don't think Davis can really jump that much anymore. Its back to what I would consider its rightful place after the little fiasco with the ranking error, but, lets see, its 42 right now, and UCSD is 38. While its open to discussion, I think UCD is not going to, in the immediate future, be beating UCSD. It's close, admittedly, but the factors you mentioned aren't the only things they consider. For now, I think UCD is going to just stay at its ranking with respect to the other UCs.

UCD is #8
to view the list go to:

http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/features/2007/0709.rankings.html

UC's
2. UCLA
3. UCB
4. UCSD
8. UCD
15. UCR
36. UCSB
49. UCI
76. UCSC

airportconnectio. Do you have something against UC Davis? I checked your other posts and basically all you do is copy and paste "acceptance rates" and "SAT scores" as if the data proved that other UC's are better and should be ranked higher than UC Davis.

Acceptance rate depends on how many people apply and the campus size. If the same amount of number apply for two UCs, but if one UC campus can take in more student's, then the acceptance rate for that UC will be higher. It doesn't prove the college is any less prestigious than the others. The SAT scores you listed are all within 100 points of each other. A 100 point difference doesn't prove that a student is smarter or better prepared for college than another another student. I'm glad UC davis doesnt play this small number game and trying to raise their SAT score acceptance average by 100 just to look better. They have the brains to know that there are more important factors that can better determine whether a student will succeed or not.

That being said, im curious. Did you get rejected?

he probably did. haha. poor guy

So UCI dropped to 6th place in the UC system now?

LoL :D
