Dagnabit. I thought I’d get to say that first. I really need to learn to type faster. Or type. ;)

Haha. Of course.

</pssst.>

Unfortunately my being able to figure it out negates any previously associated coolness. :o

Curmudgeon, can you shed some light on a puzzle? How does one get into Yale, Baylor and Texas-SW and get WAITLISTED at Pitt? I must be missing something!

Information I’ve seen indicates June 1 is the first date many schools accept applications. Does this mean they have rolling admissions? Is there also a ‘last day’? Just didn’t realize the process begins more than a year early…

Don’t discount Pitt. Pitt is a hot-shot. Fast rising rep. Fantastic (maybe best) hospital system and they don’t share it with anybody. Big-dog research and it’s actually higher ranked -13- on USNews research list than Baylor ( 17 after Baylor stopped counting MD Anderson’s 100’s of millions of $ ) or Southwestern (20). They also seem to wait-list everybody not a WOW (walk on water) and then have a very “enrollment management-y” way of selecting kids from the wait-list.

masslou, don’t pay any attention to the “last day”. Nobody can wait that long. It’s NOT like undergrad. They need to have that app done within a month of opening to be at an “early” advantage. Opinions may vary on what late is, but early means early. First month IMO would be great.

Many schools are rolling. Some are non-rolling. And some are incredibly frustrating in that they are semi-rolling or just trickle out a few to superstars and then hold/wait-list everybody else.

As far as being surprised at the Pitt wait-list I’d have to say “no”. While my D had successes, she was not “ding-free”. Wait-listed at Case, too. (She declined.)

Didn’t get interviews at Harvard, Penn, Stanford and didn’t even get to submit a secondary at UCSF. First day invites to Mayo and Cleveland Clinic yielded …rejections. Not wait-lists but “straight to the round file rejected”.

But the one that took the prize was UChicago. Less than 24 hours after paying her secondary fee she was rejected. IIRC, it could have even been same day. Gee. That must have been some essay. ;)

Everybody needs to get their ego in check before they start. You just ain’t that “special”. ;)

(And yes. That is the way I talk to my own kid. ;))

D said from the UM twitter this morning: "Finite resources=choices we make: interviews, offers, schlrships, revisits are absolutely prioritzed in allocation as we build next class.”

Wished they could have just be more upfront and tell the applicants from the start.

Btw for whatever it’s worth, the 2011 USNews medical school rankings is out already:

I know rankings are just one magazine’s opinion and debatable and subject to personal interpretation, but I am still smiling at DD being a 29 & in at #6! :D

They are NOT making any friends among the sdn accepted bunch, that’s for sure.

Baylor has dropped to 24 this year…the loss of MDA research dollars really hit them hard but in all honesty, it should never have been counted as their money in the first place.

Yes, Somemom! And if heading to #6 isn’t already wonderful enough, if you look at the medical school primary care rankings, your DD is heading to NUMBER ONE - amazing!!
I know you have to be one proud Somemomma!!

According to page 6 of overall ratings, Mayo is totally unranked! Given my current work in Neurology, I can assure you, that NO ONE in my entire department filled with MDs, MD/PhDs is going to take these ratings seriously.

Never say never, eh Midwest

Mayo is a very young medical school, but that unranking puzzles me. They were in the twenties last I checked, and (obviously) rising. I wonder if they refused to participate.

USN has essentially no information on them. That leads me to suspect that they refused.

PS: Just to emphasize, the USN rankings for research scores are pretty good for research candidates. Their primary care scores are NOT good, even for candidates who wish to enter primary care. What everybody really wants is a clinical specialist score, which they don’t bother to do.

Mayo pulled a Reed. No data sent = no ranking.

Good for Mayo!
