2009-2010 Med school applicants

Bumping this oldster thread. Call from dlighted D tonight.“Dad. I took my first written self-assessment non-test thing-y in Anatomy and I DON’T SUCK AT MED SCHOOL. Yet.” Well, good for her. lol. She was nervous because she’s testing out a totally new learning system (no cramming) and it worked.

LOL. My favorite method of studying is cramming, it worked for me in hs and now in college, I guess that is going to have to change if I get into medical school.

I’m sure she’s keeping “cramming” in reserve, for when she has to have it. We’ll see how the other non-test thing-ys go this week.

Got an email from DD, really tough quizzes last week and the subject in UG for which she had less enthusiasm, biochem, resulted in a a score only 6% below the top in the class.

She is also enjoying the fact that her closest friend at med school had an MCAT score nearly 25% better than DD, but in real life, as opposed to standardized tests, DD has scored higher on everything. Both are doing great, it’s just been fun to prove that the MCAT is not linearly predictive of ones success in med school coursework.

With the block scheduling, the full year of anatomy class was finished a few weeks ago and the prof moves on to a site that begins in late Sept. Interesting.

They are already working in a hospital taking histories and examining people once a week and have worked several Saturdays (rotating) in a local low income clinic. She has actually diagnosed things, under supervision:D

^^Glad to hear all is going well! Is the low income clinic Sea Mar?

Medical school is pretty neat.

O.K… I can’t resist. I tried. I am weak. Yesterday my D got a grade grid from their first assessment, Anatomy. She just destroyed it. The other Texas girl did , too. Texas girls rep-re-sent. lol

and we can also say Rhodes College undergrad will enjoy making note of her obvious fighting spirit and readiness as well…many “rhodes” to nirvana…(or a top med school chair) which is also one reason curmudgeon’s daughter’s trajectory is fun to follow

Doh! And are you surprised???

somemom, I’m not surprised at either of our actions. Her excelling or me bragging about it. Just surprised I resisted for 22 hours. ;)

2 more hours and you could have claimed to wait an entire day!

I think I emailed you pretty quick when DH got her anatomy final grade ;)
