Question - does anyone know around how many people get the National AP Scholar award?
Seeing as a lot of people here have posted outstanding grades (and a lot, too), I guess a lot of people do?
I will be getting it, but hey, it’d be nice to know if I’m actually special to an extent or if I’m just like everyone else.

This board is populated with exceptional students. You’re special. I’m a good student, and I didn’t get nat’l ap scholar. Congratulations.

Psych: 5
USH: 5

I swore I wouldn’t give CB any more money, but I had to know [this was my first year taking APs, haha, and it’s all very exciting.]

Calc AB: 5
USH: 5

Well, i havent done as spectacular as most of you guys this year, but i passed my English Comp. Exam! (idk my score yet, under my student account it either tells you pass or fail).
The reason why i am so stoked about is is because I didn’t pass my UC AWPE, and I satisfied the requirement by passing my AP test. I would have been stuck taking summer school or extra classes next year without it…

haha reading this thread made me SO nervous/impatient that I just gave up and called =]

If you don’t want to pay the fee, you can contact your college for scores because they’ve already received them. For UCSD, they posted them under “tests we’ve received to date” in MyApplication.

Last Year there were exactly 11,686 National AP Scholars in the Nation according to college board, which is an average of about 234 per state. But if you live in a state which is highly regarded as far as education or has a larger population (ie. California, New York, PA, etc.) then the number is probably 500 per state and likewise, states like Montana are probably sub 100.

If you go to the following link you can see the breakdown for the various AP awards by state for 2008:
Higher Education Professionals | College Board;

AP US History: 4
AP Art History: 4

I am so happy with my scores; US history I totally self-studied for because I took the regular class, not AP. And I was almost certain I had bombed Art History, especially because of the low pass rate at my school… so a 4 is more than enough for me.

I caved in and finally called. I just couldn’t wait any longer. :)

Here’s what I thought I would get and what I recieved:
US Gov: 5 –> 5
Computer Science AB 4–>5 (my teacher didn’t even want me taking this exam…he said he felt that I would be better taking the A exam instead)
Calc BC: 5 –> 5 (although the more I thought about the test, the more I was worried I would get a 4…and this is my strongest class)
Calc BC (AB subscore): 5–> 5
Biology: 3 –> 4 (I am happy, the teacher didn’t cover what was actually on the test, so I was really worried, but I am extremely happy)

I am very happy. I wasn’t going to call, but I kept working myself up over it…last night I even had a dream that I recieved a 1 on calc with a 2 subscore. Now I can finally be at peace, although my heart was beating out of my chest the entire time I was listening.

These with my 5 on APUSH last year I am a AP scholar with distinction. Next year I will probably get the National AP Scholar with the 5 I am going to be taking.

Have I mentioned that I am very happy? :)

Spanish: 4

Many more to come next year…my school believes in high quality education (it’s a top high school in the nation) but not huge acceleration. I think it gives us a better foundation in all the subjects. So we only have two electives and only one is AP-eligible, in the Jr year.

Yay!
