2009 critical reading all 19 sentence completions answers

Or I could’ve gotten it wrong. =[

hmm… I didn’t take the December SAT, but I’ve seen some of these before. Somewhere.

The turtles and longevity one, seen it before i’m possitive. Maybe 10 reals? actually, it might have been in the last “old sat” preparation packet. i don’t really know.

The myopic one. I know for a fact that I learned the word myopic because of this sentence completion question. But where had I seen it before?

i did pretty well with the sc’s this time, but i was really stuck with that law one with the codify, relax, enact etc. i was stuck between codify and relax and those two seem completely opposite of each other so can anyone clearify which one is the right answer? thanks!

I put relax =/, but it seems to me now that codify possibly could have been the right answer.

nluu0929, wait so is relax wrong?

or is it codify cuz that sentence with construe was so confusingggg

also for the sophist and sage one what were some other choices because i can’t even rememebr that question’
can u guys remeber the otjher answer choices
a)sophist
b)sage
c)?
d)?
e)?
???

dontstopbelievin what did u put for codify, relax,

and can u remmeber the sophist one answer choices

if i get a confirmation on answer choices for sophist

and codify vs. relax then im 18/19 or 19/19 yeeeeyuhhhh

yeeee hopeful i put codify i think it might be right i got hella luckonn this sc cuz october sc i got dominated wit a 15/19

It is most definitely relaxed. Codify may be logical with “construe”, but relaxed made the most sense in the overall context of the sentence.

^ What if it IS codify?

Well, if you can remember the entire sentence, so be it…but that last blurb of the sentence you used as proof isn’t all that the sentence was saying.

i put relax because the sentence was saying IF we did _______, then it might look like we’re not following up on our rules. thats how i took the sentence anyway. and i put sophist for one of the questions but i dont remember the sentence, sorry!

^ Are you positively sure?

I am positively sure…trust me or not I got an 80 on the PSAT crit reading…still I could be wrong…though in my mind I’m sure.

^ Can you tell us + January SAT takers (last time) how you attacked the Verbal of Critical Reading with an 800?

yeah i think im pretty sure relaxed was the right answer.

Sure…I just used the blue book, and did all of the practice tests (well actually 4 of them). One of the keys to my success was my knowledge of vocabulary of course. I actually got a list of 500 words from my friend who has a tutor (I self-studied). That list was pretty amazing seeing as around 10 showed up…besides that I read a lot, and have a great natural knowledge of vocab. With vocab I suggest learning 25 words a week, or 50 if you are short on time. The way I tackle passages is skim through the questions, circling any that are “overall” passage questions, and I bracket the lines in the passage where the questions are concerned.

I suggest finding your own way to go about the passages but thats how I do it. one. paragraph. at. a. time.

^

ivysaur
i can study like 1000 vocab words a week but i still make careless mistakes, like i know what all the words mean, just its confusing on 2-3

but for passages i get owned
like i love vocab but not passages

hmmm…are you reading the passages critically? I know that sounds like a stupid question but really…for the answer choices, the only way that one can pick the wrong answer is if they don’t have sufficient evidence from the passage to substantiate it. I suggest taking the reverse approach to this, and crossing out answer choices until the only correct one remains. While crossing out answer choices, look for any evidence in the passage that refutes what the question is asking. If you have narrowed it down to 2…look at your uncontroversial responses to other questions…make sure your overall responses to the questions are linear and agree w/ the overall message of the passage.

By “owned” do you just mean some passages are beyond you? Or do you just get tripped up in many random questions throughout?

ivy whats ur cr score now, ur seem to be hella boss at this
