Hi everyone! I screwed up in high school with a 2.75GPA and I am currently attending a 4 yr college in CA that I really really do not like at all. I am planning to apply to NYU as a transfer student for Fall 09'. I have a 3.2GPA right now by the end of this semester I will have a total of 32.5 credits. I volunteer at Salvation army on Saturdays and calculate income taxes for low income families. However, in order to apply to Stern school of business I need to fulfill a bunch of requirements such as micro/macr-economics, financial accounting, freshman english, managerial accounting, and calculus. I have fulfilled most requirements except I still need to take managerial accounting and calculus. I really want to go to Stern and leave my ****ty college right now. Since I have not completed the requirements for Stern should I still apply for Fall 09' or Spring 10'? Please give me an idea of what to do. Thanks.

First: You can't apply for a trasnfer to Stern in the Spring. They only accept applicants for the fall.

Second: Your going to need a really good college GPA to balance out your high school grades. So i'd wait a year and try to apply next year.

NYU only accepts transfers with only large sternocleidomastoid muscles.

Just sent in my app. Now just have to wait until May to get the decision.

rsb- what are your stats?/Which school did you apply to?

my roommate just sent in his application. Stern was his first choice during freshman admissions, but he was rejected the first time, and ended up at Villanova. He applied to Gallatin this time for Fall 09 sophomore admission, and because it's such a unique school, he's really unsure about his chances....do you guys have any insight?

HS GPA: ~3.75, 6 APs i think
SATs: ~2100 (he told me once, but I don't remember. i just remember they were close to mine)
Marketing major in Villanova's School of Business
College GPA: 3.90
NHS in a VERY competitive high school, president of asian society in HS, webmaster of marketing society in college
wants to combine psych, marketing, management, and entertainment to get an entertainment management degree at Gallatin.

what do you guys think?

AH i'm planning on sending my app this weekend. I really need to work on it.

But the trouble is that I haven't done many extracurriculars. It's so hard for me to do it because I'm a commuter at my current university. Most of the meetings, etc. are like 7 at night, which is really unfortunate because the drive home for me isn't pleasant.

I'm trying my best to do Circle K and join the Asian American Student Association, but I wish I knew about the a cappella groups on campus before!

Oh well, I'm definitely going to do SOMETHING! I'm trying hard to keep my grades wayyy up (:

rollz,

i transferred from penn state to stern this past year. i would say your roommate has a very strong chance to get into gallatin, as i know transfers with similar or even worse stats to be honest. if he wants to do business he should try for stern though. his grades are certainly good enough, its just for every person they accept there is a similar applicant that they reject. the whole process is very much a toss up, but i would be very confident with what he has.

Well, I'm also applying for NYU Stern and have a brief Q about the year of standing. Is it better to transfer as a sophomore, or as a junior, and can I deliberately choose it? (I'm already sophomore.)

First of all, it's in part because I'm not sure whether Stern accepts many junior students, as I'm right now sophomore at a business school and have completed most of the business requirements for Stern transfer, and in the process of completing Managerial Accounting. I also took one management, stat, and two upper finance courses(about derivatives and some other high-geared financial assets) but I doubt that they'll count as req. My entire semester hours fall somewhere between 44- 48, or about 16 courses. That will reach 60 to 65 hrs by the end of this semester.

In a case like this, do you guys think I should transfer as sophomore(which I prefer, because I might have to take more than 4 semesters at NYU anyway given my credit transfers and all the chaos in the WS), or junior(the difficulty of fitting in, you know). Also, which year in Stern is, more or less, less demanding to get into? Thanks in advance.

youch- apply as a sophomore, not many schools will take you when you're in junior standing because they want a certain number of credits done at their school...especially a school like stern they probably won't take you as a junior......

who has sent in their app? I have. I'm a bit nervous.

How competitive is NYU Econ? I have a 4.0 from a state university as well as a college. Is it usually enough?

NYU Econ is a joke. Stern on the other hand is another story...

Really, a joke???
Well, i really don't know if I should apply econ under Stern or econ under CAS. I knew Stern is MUCH harder though...

I suppose this is a personal preference kinda thing but I can't justify spending 50k+ a year to receive a subpar education in economics. If you are looking to do something in the finance sector and want to go to NYU apply to stern.

Hi everyone I submitted my common application and NYU supplement online on Feb 26, I also payed the transfer fee, but I didn't get any further information like confirmation email from NYU, does NYU send confirmation emails?

Hey Geforce,

Chances are, the confirmation emails are just a little slow - NYU's in the middle of freshman applicants, so they're probably not as quick at sending them out. I sent mine a month ago, and got an immediate confirmation, and then a subsequent one after another week. I would say wait a week or two, and I'm sure you'll receive an email shortly.

NYUjosh,

Thanks for your reply, since I didn't get a confirmation email, I'm worried about they would discard my other materials like recommendations

they keep all your documents in a folder and when its complete they send an email that's my understanding of the entire process

I haven't gotten my fourth email and all they're missing is my college transcript which I sent two weeks ago. Do you guys think I should send it again or is it too early to worry?

They don't send you an email saying if they received all your supplemental forms. The fourth email only confirms that they received your actual application and they looked it over for missing information and/or errors.

Amil, i'd wait a week. I'm sure your college is busy with their own applications process so theres probably a backlog.
