2009 Fall Transfer To NYU

ok but when I called they said all they're missing is my college transcript so shouldn't I have received the 4th email??

I am currently in the process of transfering to NYU Stern for the Fall Semester. I was wondering how high my chances are of getting into Stern. My information is as follows:

Current University: Georgetown University
High School GPA: 4.5 weighed, 4.0 unweighed
College GPA: 3.874 (4 A's and 1 B+)
Courses Taken: Humanities & Writing, Calculus I, Financial Accounting, Introduction to Sociology, Theology (Problem of God), Theology (Theological Implications of the Holocaust), Managerial Accounting, Introducation to Psychology, International Business, English (The English Renaissance)
SAT: 660 Math, 570 Reading (not too happy with this score)
Recommendation: From English Professor who did his Masters at NYU (since they only ask for one recommendation from Transfers)
Essay: In my essay (which I am still in the process of editing) I am discussing the reasons why I want to leave my current university, which are mostly personal reasons, not to mention Stern will provide me with a better education in my intended field.

Based on these facts, do you think there is a good chance of me getting into Stern? Georgetown is a pretty challenging, not to mention prestigious, university, but I think that Stern would be a better choice since their Business School is ranked higher.

Your creds are great italianboy. Better then mine. The only thing i saw is that Stern has a list of classes which they "highly" recommend. Classes include microeconomics, calculus, expository writing, and introductory accounting (a combination of managerial accounting and financial accounting totaling at least 6 semester hours). I noticed you don't have micro or expos. Not sure if humanities & writing is an equivalent to expository writing. I don't know how big of an impact that is but thats the only negative i can see. Good luck

Thank you for looking over my information, I really appreciate it. If I get into Stern, I am planning to take micro during the summer (planning to include this in my application as an aside with an explanation in the additional information section). The only reason I didn't take micro my first year is because Georgetown's Business School has a "set plan" that it wants its students to follow, and they don't allow us to take micro economics until sophomore year. Also, based on the description I found for expository writing at NYU, I think that Humanities and Writing is almost the exact same thing because that course is meant to improve an incoming student's writing abilities. Also, I forgot to mention that I have 6 credits worth of AP's (English Literature and US Government), which will be applied as elective credits). Thank you again for looking over my information.

wassup yall

So the decisions are mailed in May? I'm going on a tour of NYU in a few weeks and I'm so excited. Does anyone know if it's true that the transfer rate will be very high this year because of students dropping out for financial reasons?

Rsb825,

Yes, the majority of decisions will probably arrive during the first and second week of may, although they could very well arrive in late april as well. To be honest, no one knows for sure how the transfer rate will be affected by the recent economic climate, I would say that any change in the freshman acceptance rate will be indicative of the transfer rate though.

humm, I submitted my payment weeks before the applications. Now the applications show downloaded, but the payment still shows submitted. Is it O.K., will it take that long?

AoDay: by the end of my freshman year it will be 31 credits... 4.0
currently in my spring semester of Freshman year

high school stats: did not care
had like a 2.8
SAT's were horrible

I'm gettting really nervous here waiting for my decision.

Im a transfer trying to get into Tisch (acting). My SAT scores are not very high. I am waiting with you guys, just so you know.

Jeez, the longer i wait for the decision, the more i know i'm going to get rejected. This sucks

@pr0616: Since your applying as a freshman, NYU is going to give your high school stats more weight. They usually take your high school stats into more consideration and you apparently didn't do to well. But you never know

no lol im applying as a sophomore lol

But you just said your in spring semester of you freshman year? So your applying to be in NYU for your sophomore year? Right? or did i misunderstand you

Do you know if we need to submit a letter of good standing from the dean? the nyu site doesnt say it's a requirement...just making sure

shp420: I didn't submit one.

I'm so nervous I just want to find out already. I'm excited to tour the campus in a few weeks, though.

hey pal, NYU CAS Economics department is ranked 10th out of 200 Universities surveyed worldwide.. so if you want a subpar education, why don't you hit up your local Community College. Why Stern has been elevated into this godly institution with the result of the rest of NYU is seen as **** on this site makes absolutely no sense to me. Stern is maybe 2 or 3% harder to get into than CAS or anything else, tops; and fine. they are a little bit tougher judging SAT math scores, but why does that make them better than CAS?. CAS has high ranks in just in as many disciplines if not more than Stern. Some people on this site really have to learn about schools rather than spew what they hear from others.

Don't get caught up in someone's post just cause they were narrow minded. A degree in econ from CAS is just as competitive as one from Stern. They take many of the same classes with the same teachers, but Stern is better for business students. I also wouldn't say that Stern has been elevated far beyond the rest of NYU's schools. Tisch and NYU's law school have also become top schools in their fields of study, but You can't go quantifying the difficulty of entering Stern as opposed to CAS using made up numbers and then using it as support for your argument.

So whose applying to which college?

I'm doing Stern
