2009 Fall Transfer To NYU

i think, particularly if you’re transferring, it’s also knowing how to work the system.

i successfully transfered to NYU, and while i didn’t have a 3.8, i also did not take classes at my CC that i would get low grades in. (i had a 3.5.) in particular, i didn’t take any foreign language or math classes. i registered for politics, sociology and literature classes. i finished most of my GE requirements EXCEPT for those classes. my GPA was high, so i was accepted to transfer at NYU, and i registered for math there.

I got my acceptance letter today for the Hotel Management program and because my dad works there its free!!! i am so excited about moving back to the city!! :)

Got my letter today - rejected. I for sure thought NYU was my shoe-in school, and I don’t mean that in any self-serving way. I have great stats all around, and I sincerely loathe going to my current school. The only motivation I have left after all of these rejections is the motivation to drop out!

yn12, don’t drop out. It was a really difficult year for transfer admissions. A lot of the top tier schools were faced with taking less students because of financials or an overwhelming amount of qualified applicants. You probably were qualified but so were the applicants before and after you who got rejected. Tough it out at your school for another semester and apply for spring2010

I never received anything from NYU regarding a Health History/Immunization form like I did with all the other schools. Anyone know anything about this?

Does anyone know of anyone who applied successfully to Steinhardt, the applied psychology program and their stats? There was a post from someone on this thread or another and it is driving me crazy that I can’t find it.

wat happened to the fb group?

Can I make it into NYU or even NYU Stern?

Hello, I am preparing my apps for transfer into these schools. Chances would be helpful.

HS stats:

Cumulative GPA: 3.4 (85)

Last two years of HS GPA: 3.48

College GPA (After two years)

Freshman year: 3.95
Sophomore year: 4.0

Cumulative GPA for first two years of college: 3.

SAT: 1750

Chance me please

Hey guys,
I was put on the wait list for the transfer admission for Fall '09 and still did not receive further notice. Is anyone else in the same situation as me?

@remy

call the student health center. the number for the immunization and health records department is on the page.

i never received it either and they had to mail it to me later. PLUS, make sure you file with your insurance company and NYU, if you have an insurance plan already. NYU automatically puts you on their health insurance plan if you don’t opt-out.

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if I could get anyone’s opinion on this: I’m going to be a sophomore at UCSD and I’m applying to transfer to Steinhardt for Fall 2010. I was rejected to CAS after high school, but I have a stellar high school record, UCSD gpa: 3.8 (it’s quite a prestigious school-but mostly for biological sciences). I’m going to apply for MCC at steinhardt. I had a 4.25 weighted in high school, stellar academic record, solid work experience w/ an internship, extracurriculars, and everything! i was quite sad when I wasn’t accepted as a freshmen after high school, but it was probably due to a 1980 sat score.

what do you guys think my chances are for steinhardt?

Hi. I’m trying to transfer in for Spring 2010. Since so many of you are now so educated on the transfering process, how do you think I’ll stack up?

Applying to: NYU CAS-Philosophy
Applying for: Spring 2010
Applying as: Sophomore

Highschool GPA: 2.9
ACT score: 28

Current college: Georgia Southwestern State University
Current GPA: 4.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Units: 44 semester units completed.

Also

I play division II tennis for my school, which isn’t quite as good as NYU’s Division III team, but I still think I could be an asset to the team. I’m checking on my application that I am interested in playing for the school.

I have a tremendous upward trend on my grades… My HS GPA is poor because my freshman and sophomore year, then it just keeps getting better and better untill the 4.0 in college.

I am in my schools honors program, and take the most difficult workload available and I’ve recieved several academic awards (presidents list, NCAA golden athelete award, ect.).

My history prof.'s recommendation will be great.

The problem is I will need financial aid (nearly half), will that knock my chances much?

Thanks ahead of time! and congratulations to all of those accepted this fall!

@ ldhch123 I think you had a decent chance even for freshman admissions. Doing well your freshman year will definitely boost your chances, just keep it up your sophomore year grades and you should have a really good chance. Your SAT score will have even less significance as you will be applying for junior standing.

@JrWildMan I think you have a good chance. The change in your academic performance will definitely be noticed. If there were any specific reasons for hs performance you may want to write it down in the additional comments section. NYU is need blind so it should not have any effect on your admission.

You should both make sure to write a convincing essay as it seems to carry a lot of weight.

Thanks a ton, Ao.
I was beginning to think no one would answer me.
I’ve become really disheartened about NYU in the past 24 hours, the more and more I hear about the financial aid they give out. I’m almost certain that with my credentials they wont see fit to give me much more than a few thousand dollars, a possiblity to take out huge loans, and then will hold the door open for me while I leave sobbing.

My dad told me today that he cant afford to send me there if I dont get like half. I think I will have to look elsewhere.

Question to you 2009 NYU transferees. especially those who went to Stern.

Their policy states that, as a transfer, you MUST take Calculus 1 to satisfy the transfer math requirement. and that “Business Calculus” or anything similar will NOT be acceptable.

are they strict about this?

is there any way around this?
I was thinking I could take it there during the summer before enrolling, but i hate math.

I went to Penn State and there were two calculus classes. One was Math 110 and the other Math 140. 110 was known to be “business calculus” while the other included trig into their curriculum. I opted to take the 110 class and it satisfied the req.

Hello everyone…Im a 09 HS grad applying as an NYU soph transfer next fall…i did the SAT the spring of my junioryear in HS and got an 1870…is there any point of repeating it again?

I don’t think they accept SAT scores taken during college. That score isn’t horrible, just focus on your freshman year it’s the biggest factor anyway.

Hey Jr-- profile very similar to my D’s. Somewhat higher grades in HS, but she was also rejected by CAS last year. Very good freshman yr at good national univ (not as competitive as NYU), and a focused transfer application for MCC. I think it was likely a mistake to not apply to Steinhardt initially, but this was a process to come around to the whole media program. If you are looking at NYC in general, take a look at the Lincoln Center campus of Fordham too. Very good media program, though the campus in the city is not much to write home about. D applied there as well and would have gone if she did not get into NYU. Don’t know if it helps, but there is a fall open house for Steinhardt. Lat year it was over Columbus day weekend. Very good program, a chance to meet faculty and the dean. Good luck.

Hey everyone, my name is Greg, Im a double major in finance and economics

I am trying to transfer into stern for Fall 2010 as a junior. I currently go to Minnesota state university. My high school record was horrible- 2.6gpa. In college I have a 3.67 that I will maintain this upcoming year. I am involved with the Finance and Economics clubs and have several positions within a social fraternity. I will also be studying abroad in France for a semester, during which, i will either intern or volunteer. I will be in all upper level classes (compared to others i would say that i have a really large course load, with more difficult classes). I have taken all the basic courses like micro and macro, calc 1, all the gen eds, financial and managerial acct also. And i will also have taken 3 more math classes by the time I apply. What type of chance will I have, and what things could i do to stand out more?

Thank you,
Greg
