2009 PSAT Scores and Discussion

I just found out my PSAT scores today and I did just horrendously and especially in math. I got a 65. I confirmed all the math questions discussed on CC and I only missed 1 question and omitted another. That must mean I got all the easy questions wrong. My composite score is a 200. I missed commended by 1 POINT! I’m so mad and dissapointed I can’t even believe it. My score from sophomore year was higher.

raiderade, could you have got off a question and shifted the answers?

hahahha thats actually pretty good… (the joke lol.)

Im gonna go ask my GC tomorrow to see my score… lets see if that works.
The hq is in evanston right? then every illinois schools should have them now…

Maybe that’s it. But usually I’m so careful about things like that. This is so disconcerting to me. I can’t believe I missed commended by 1 point.

“then every illinois schools should have them now…”

Mine doesn’t (unless they are lying, which is entirely possible).

same silver im not sure if my school has them and im in a suberb of chicago. thats y im going to go ask tomorrow cause i want to know before finals haha.

Eek. I just realized my research paper that I turned in today was my uncorrected version. The one I meant to turn in is in my hand right now. :(

^Ouch! I just finished a research paper of my own…anyway, silverturtle, do you know what the Ohio nmsf cutoff will be? I have not received my score yet, but I figure I will get 210-220.

Well, two years ago Ohio was 213; last year it was 211.

^^^i’m ohio too, but I only have about a 1% chance.

Chill the hell out guys! I got an 80 on the Writing and put no error for explanation of! Don’t spoil it for me! :P

But to lighten to mood, here’s another pretentious joke:

Renee Descartes walks into a bar, and the bartender asks him if he want’s a beer. He replies, “I think not.”, and instantly vanishes into a puff of logic.

^i’ve heard that one before…no not really.

Actually, that joke sucks!
What’s commended score? a 201?

It was 201 last year. Nobody knows for sure what it will be this year, but it usually doesn’t vary more than 1 or 2 points every year. So 199-203 is probably a sure bet for commended this year.

Do states that historically have only stayed the same with cutoffs or have had them lowered ever suddenly go up again? For some reason, I just don’t get the feeling thats Florida’s 211 will go up to a 212 for this PSAT, seeing as it has been 211 the past two years and has steadily gone down since 2004-2005ish.

^youll just have to wait and see, bro. For the average to go up, logically less people would have to have taken the exam, and a proportionately large amount of them would have to make high scores. The reality Is the test is getting more popular but as for whther smarter people are taking it, it’s a crapshoot.

Maybe it’ll be 212, maybe it’ll be 210, maybe it’ll be 220. Any of those options are distinctly possible. Just wait and see :-P

GC in KY does not have the PSAT scores as of 10am this morning (12/3/09). Said it could be as late as Christmas.

My d got a score of 206. So I guess she will be commended, but since we are in Texas…that’s it. still very happy.

Anyone want to post answers to ambiguous questions? :P

I just got mine back today – booklet, report sheet, the whole nine yards. I’m a Sophomore.

CR: 76 (1 wrong)
W: 75 (1 wrong - Wow, that curve sucked)
Math: 69 (4 wrong) - Odd, given it’s, at least I thought, rather, my best subject.

In Critical Reading, I got the vocabulary question wrong where the answer was “dirge” (I chose anthem).

Writing, I got one of those ever-so-fun “no error” questions wrong. I knew it was right, but I just hate, hate, hate picking “no error”.

Math - Venn Diagram (no clue, really), a^b = 64 (64^1, doh), Numbers with a ‘0’ between 99 and 1000 (Apparently I thought every number between 100-200 head a ‘0’ in it?), and some other one I don’t feel like looking up.

I’m from New Jersey, by the way. Sophomore year, so it means almost nothing, but I’m pretty happy where I stand.

Student2 - Did you omit one in CR? If you only got 1 wrong, with no omissions, then you should have an 80. I am assuming you took the Form S test.
