I hope my 173 from 9th grade and 202 from 10th grade will become a 230+ this time. :D

nah, I had no idea what I was doing back then and didn’t take it seriously. This time I studied and was hoping to get semifinalist status but oh well. Just have to study that much harder to try and get 2250+ (maybe even 2300+)

Man, my school didn’t send ours back yet D:

We usually have to come late after school to get it, and there’ll be some sort of speaker there to explain and stuff. |: Like last year, I suppose.

Last year I got a 160 or something like that. Hopefully I’ll do better ![]()
But it seemed a little difficult D:

My D got a 229!
We’re from NJ–

I think I might have a shot at a 213 in PA. Last year’s cutoff was 214. Is it really possible for the cutoffs to decrease by one point?

The 96th percentile for commended is below 200 this year.

i got a 221 & im in jerseyy…would love to know the cutoff this year! i know it was 221 last year, but im wondering if it will go down.

No one knows the cutoffs for any state. They might go up in some and down in others. Most likely, there will be a net shift slightly down.

I personally thought that PSAT was super easy this year… which means that the cutoff score is going to be high. -.-
I haven’t gotten any scores back yet, but maybe that’s because my school is just slow?

^Silverturtle, you asked for my data?

I don’t know where you got yours, there’s a decent chance it’s more accurate I suppose, because knowing you its probably from some deep link on cboard’s site… lol

But, you see, I haven’t actually gotten my scores in paper form yet. My dean pulled me into her office to show me my scores off of the master list, because I’m probably my schools only hope for NMS this year. Don’t know if you’ve had access to this before, but for my school of 400 the list was basically a 10 foot long by 2 foot wide paper folded over a like 10 times, with a lot of columns with different information. Wrapped inside this they sent her a few other documents, some explaining the NMS procedures and such. What I used for my calculations was this sheet that showed every score from 240 down to 60, then next to it it showed how many in the country got that specific score, then how many in the country got that OR above (i.e., for 240 it would say for example 20 students, then in the next column 20 students. Next, for 239 it might show 40 students, then 60 students total got that or above, accounting for the 20 who got a 240).

I had my graphing calculator in my backpack so I took the number of people who got a 222 or above and found what percentile that was. I’m afraid I didn’t take this sheet with me, so I don’t remember the figures, but I’ll see if she’ll let me see it again. You guys might be interested to see it anyway, haha.

thanks so much, silverturtle! :)

Just out of curiosity (as it really doesn’t apply to me yet), are cutoffs dependent on all scores in a given year or just those of juniors? As a sophomore, I do get a percentile of all test takers – as well as a breakdown for just sophomores – so I’m curious if that comes into play in a year.

Only juniors’ scores are relevant in determining cut-offs.

michaelwiggens,

The College Board switches to 99+ when the percentile hits 99.50, so I used that to determine that 222 was 99.50 or very slightly higher.

Still no scores for me…

Has anyone without scores tried to call the College Board to see if they’ll tell it to you if you give them the account information (minus the code on the Score Report)?

That’s good reasoning, silverturtle, and I agree that jumping from 99th (at 221) to 99.95 (which was actually 99.945 rounded to hundredths) at 222 was an odd and mathematically illogical shift, but I dunno, that’s what the math showed. I do remember there being a significantly small number of people with 222+ out of 1.2milion… I dunno, I guess if you’re good at digging through college board pdf’s you might be able to find the chart I was looking at, or just kiss up to your GC… I’ll do the same, haha.

Are you sure you didn’t accidently divide only those who scored a 222 by the total number?

noname22. what do you know about commended student cutoff? Do you think 199 will make it?

silverturtle, I tried several methods of both calling and emailing College Board (sans access code). First, I tried calling and asking if they could ‘look up’ my score based on SSN as I hadn’t yet received scores. The answer was more or less that they can’t release that information over the phone. Same response when a friend said that he lost his scores, and needed College Board to look them up, and same response when emailing College Board with the query. Finally just asked my guidance counselor, and got scores that way. Short of that, I dunno.
