2009 PSAT Scores and Discussion

My scores:

CR: 74
M: 80
W: 73
Total: 227

If they agree with my petition, I’ll get a 232.

^Nice job on the math, that section screwed a lot of people up. I ended up with a 72 W, I got every one of the hard questions right, but somehow, I omitted a question and missed two easy questions. :(

the writing killed me…

Critical reading killed me.
It sucks to have 70+ on two of your sections and then have a 63 CR because of really vague questions like resentment vs. disdain, or not knowing what halcyon or onerous mean.

Got a 227 in Texas. 70 CR/79M/78W
Silverturtle, which questions did you petition?

alierr, it was about the same. somewhere a little over 1,500,000

The Writing question with “explanation of.” I emailed it Monday and am awaiting their letter.

ah yes I remember debating that question for a considerable amount of time. In the end I decided that both “explanation of” and “explanation for” could have been used correctly there, and that collegeboard wouldn’t be so tricky as to say one is more ‘idiomatically correct’ or something else lame like that

Just got my scores a few hours ago.

CR: 67
M: 67
WS: 62
Overall: 196

I got the second highest score in the junior class at my school, and I’m pretty happy with it. My counselor also noted the lack of a star near the Selection Index, so I guess I made the cutoff for California, but I guess I could be wrong.

Hello - first, can someone PLEASE tell me how to post a new question here, rather than merely “replying” to another post? (I apologize for asking here, but after staring at the page for 1/2 hr, I can’t figure out where else to post!)

Secondly, can anyone please help? Can anyone either post or pm to me the answer key for the Wednesday 2009 PSAT test, or does anyone know where I can find online without downloading potentially risky files? Thank you.

I’m sorry if this has already been addressed, but this thread has gotten quite long!
Can I look at my PSAT scores online at the College Board website without having seen my actual score report? When I went to MyCollegeQuickstart, it said I needed the actual score report to type in a code and access my online report. Well, I can’t get it because it’s winter break, and our counselors didn’t give our scores out, so I guess I’m in the dark for a few weeks.

delvedeeper, you do need the access code from your score report. My school was going to do the same for whatever reason-not let us know our scores until next year- but fortunately one teacher leaked out a few scores to a few students, so they decided to be “fair” and let everyone see his score and access code.

thanks, guess I’ll have to wait until next year to see my results. Man, I wish we could have seen them, but it’s pretty hectic mid-December with exams, and the guidance office is swamped. So, no PSAT rejoicing/complaining from me for a little while.

my D got a 220 in TN

Do you guys think a 215 will make the cutoff in florida?

To cjester: Thank you very much for posting that! I was trying to find out for the past couple of weeks without any luck, so thank you for taking the time and effort to post the key. Happy New Year!

Mind you, the scores above do not represent the “official” cutoff for a certain state (this is because not everyone who becomes SF goes on collegeconfidential!). For example, it says Virginia’s cutoff was 219 last year when in fact I know that it has to be at least 218 since my friend got SF with a 218 last year.

mathlearner- no problem, and merry Christmas/ happy New Year to you too!
alihaq- Virginia’s cutoff for the graduating class from last year (class of 2009) who took the PSAT in 2008 was 219. The cutoff for this year’s graduating class (2010) who took the PSAT last year is 218. there’s a list of the cutoffs from the past few years here: [National Merit Scholarships](http://www.collegeplanningsimplified.com/NationalMerit.html)
