2009 PSAT Scores and Discussion

It just dawned on me today how flawed this question is:

The arrival of swallows in San Juan Capistrano on the same day each spring fascinates scientists, who continue to search for an explanation of the phenomenon.

The question doesn’t even specify whether the swallows are African or European! How could anyone answer it?

^ Haha, that made me think of Monty Python and the Holy Grail… (if any of you caught the reference…)

But at the same time, African swallows are non-migratory. Thank you silverturtle, this brightened up my day :)

silverturtle-Did you ever receive a response from collegeboard in regards to your petition?

Not yet. They said 7-10 business days, and I sent it December 14th. It should come soon.

I really hope that they see the truth to my argument. I’ve done more research since my sending the petition, and I’m wholly convinced now that the original question was flawed.

Unfortunately, though, I didn’t find my best piece of support until the day after when I sent it: [explanation in English - Google Dictionary](http://www.google.com/dictionary?langpair=en|en&q=explanation&hl=en&aq=f). (It proves beyond any doubt that the College Board got it wrong.)

This is wierd… I missed 1 on the math section and got a 75…

Why is my curve different?

^Did you omit any questions?

lolcake, you must have missed two. -1 on Form W is 79; -1 on Form S is 78. -2 on either is 75.

Mmm I just checked. One question wrong (that was marked on the sheet)
None ommitted.
75 math score…

But then again I’m not really angry or anything. I got a 222 which is fine for a

sophmore.

^Yes, but you could have gotten more. Like a 226 or 225, depending if you have form W or form S. Ah well, your loss.

Form S was way too easy.

CritRead: 80 (-1) <–Lenient as fu–, considering how easy the passages and vocab were.
Math: 80 (-0)
Writing: 80 (-0)

240.

I missed the “playful” tone question, as did almost everyone in my school. So I’m glad they curved it the way they did.

My kid got a healthy 99th percentile score nationally but nowhere near the amount of mail the older sibling received after a 99+ percentile score. There have been a couple of emails about Ivy summer programs, and generic “consider us” email, but nothing too exciting yet. Maybe colleges aren’t spending as much on recruitment mailings this year?

^I would deem that to be a good thing, if you know what i mean.

I got a 230 and I haven’t gotten any mail at all. Is it because I’m international? I’m definitely 99th percentile…

Couldn’t agree with you more. It’s making me stress so much about the SAT…the practice tests seem to be sooooo much harder than I expected.

Just to show how inaccurate 2009 PSAT W FORM was.
This was taken today from 2008 PSAT Alternate testbook under almost real conditions (no one was at my house today):
Math: 80
Writing: 78 (-1)
CR: 61 (-9, 3 omits)–yikes! worse than 2009 PSAT
Total: 219

2009 PSAT W Form:
Math: 70 (-4)
CR: 63 (-10)
W: 68 (-4)
Total: 201

HAHA. SCREW the National MErit Corporation sticks tongue out And i did no prepping in between except the minor stuff my tutor gave me.

I still have not received the College Board’s reply to the petition. They indicated that I would receive it within 7-10 business days; I sent it three weeks ago.

silverturtle, I think the CB failed to take a high school junior seriously despite the overwhelming evidence.

I hope that isn’t true, though it’s possible. I would suggest that perhaps the delay is due to the fact that your petition was submitted during the holiday season (or at least I hope that’s why). Maybe wait another week or so, and then ask CB about the status of the petition?

Sounds like a good idea.
