2009 PSAT scores (Class of 2011)

240 Alaska.

j/k.

I have an unrelated question, how good of an indicator are PSAT scores of SAT scores. I got a 780 on the math PSAT despite taking SAT practice tests and never scoring above a 670, which doesn’t make much sense to me, also is the essay included in the SAT writing score

NY - S#2 called to report he got a 237. It’s about a 30 point increase from last year’s (sophomore year) result. We’re obviously delighted, but it does make me wonder about the reliability/predictive validity of this test. It seems that the difference in right or wrong on a relative handful of questions can produce a huge point variation.

223 in Wisconsin. Cut-off in past years has been no higher than 210 :). 99th percentile. even if writing did screw me over…

do they come in the mail, or does school give 'em to you?

Today was the day the students at our son’s school were supposed to get their scores during advisory period. But we had a snow day today and are in a blizzard warning for tomorrow. So no school tomorrow either. Guess we wait until Thursday.

80 Math, 75 Writing, 58 Critical Reading… I totally spaced out on that African preservation article and got 5 questions wrong on it lol. And I did zero vocab studying… so basically that killed it for me… 99th percentile though :D

I live in CT, and the cutoff was 218 last year… is there any way that by some miracle the cutoff will drop 5 points?? haha

I think it’s pretty unfair how the cutoffs for semifinalist are by state and not nationally… does anyone know what their justification for this is?

major major MAJOR fail for me. 197 new york :(

218 in Florida… 70, 80, 68

The reason that semi-finalist is by state is to ensure that the awards really are geographically diverse. Kids in states with better school systems shouldn’t get a boost, in the view of the NM folks. This can seem unfair to those in ‘smart’ states, but remember that it is just one test and one set of awards and scholarships. If you do well on the PSATs, but not well enough to get semi-finalist because you live in a state with a high cutoff, keep in mind that you will doubtless have similarly high SAT scores which the colleges will see.

228 PA, writing curve was bunk

234 in NJ… writing curve seems really weird, i got 1 off and im almost positive i got a 79…

Mj did you take it on Wednesday or Saturday? The one on Wednesday had a REALLY nice curve, where getting things wrong didn’t hurt you much. The Saturday one had an awful curve that took away 5 points per point off.

@nemom: So what if they have worse school systems? So with this cutoff system, I could just move to New Mexico and they’d give me a Merit Scholarship? I think it’s silly… I understand the reasoning though…

And you’re right, I shouldn’t be worried… I’m really not, I’m confident that I can get my reading score up… :)

221 IL
Bad writing Curve!!!

238

ma

228

oh.

i did thought i did unusually well on writing, but there was a harsh curve. d’oh. oh well still a 222

222 Outside the US
…the pool seems pretty tough…but fingers crossed
and yes, that writing curve was total bogus

If I get one wrong in the Math part, what would be an estimate of the score?
