Hey…
Any spring 2009 transfers to NYU out there? If you are one, please share your stats. Furthermore, list any questions you may have.
The following are my stats:
Second sophomore transfer to NYU (Gallatin School)
Current university: University of San Diego

Hi!
I am a spring transfer and I am desperate to get into NYU
I am applying to CAS
Current College: Borough of Manhattan Community College, Columbia University Summer Session

Do you want me to post all my stats?

I didn't know you could transfer to NYU for the spring semester. Anyhow I'm curious, what are your stats? both of you :D I'm applying for fall so I want to see if I stand a chance. Thanks

Oh and I'm applying to UC San Diego as well. Was there a reason that you transferred out? What's UCSD like?

Borough of Manhattan Community College- GPA 3.95
already completed 38 credits
credits in progress: 18

Columbia University Summer Session- GPA 3.67
credits completed:3
I took two classes one was pass/fail

Standardized Testing: I have enough credits that I don't need to submit it

High School Transcript: disgusting 2.6....i was in ballet boarding school (part of my essay)

Hook: Maybe? My dad is an adjunct professor at Tisch

EC's
High School: Ballet about 36 hours a week

Ballet

Columbia University note taker for basic mathematics summer 2008

Part time jewelry exhibition staff at Doyle Auction House

Part time babysitter

Do I have a shot? NYU is my number 1 choice I want to go there soooo bad!

rcl-

what school are you applying to? I'm assuming CAS? if that's so, the transfer rate last semester for cas was, i believe, like 3%...it will be very hard to get into cas if the transfer rate does not move much...you've got a nice college gpa, but coming from a cc with anything less you probably wouldnt be considered...you may have an outside shot, make sure you're essay really explains your hs performance...make sure you have some really meaningful ec's in there (are you still doing ballet? if you were still at a high level that would be nice), and remember that they are pretty good at seeing through the "fluff"

you're dad being a prof. could be a big factor in your favor as well...it won't make or break your app. i dont think, but if you're right on the border it may give you that extra boost

good luck

also,

would anybody chance me?

applying to gallatin for spring '09, coming from Oberlin college as a sophmore

HS gpa: 3.2 (kinda stinks, but went up year by year and was a top public hs...couple of people from my class even got into nyu with a lesser gpa)
college gpa: 3.75 (4.0 last semester, but only on three graded courses)
SAT's: 1400/1600, 2120/2400
SAT II's: 710 History, 710 biology (i think)
EC's: Treasurer and acting President of an activist group on campus, involved in a few other groups on campus as well, was opinions editor for my HS paper. Interned for a tenants rights group in manhattan for a month in January.

My father is an alum, I think I got two good recs. from professors

Any thoughts? Appreciate it in advanced

Yes, I am still dancing, and yes I am still good. I am sending a DVD of my dancing in addition to my application. I am not sure where you got your figures from, I have never heard of their acceptance rate being so low. I have spoken to a couple of different admissions officers and they have all said I would be competitive for admission. Obviously I know this does not guarantee I will be accepted. They also said to be a competitive for CAS you should have a 3.6 and above. I have been out of high school now from 2 1/2 years, while they will obviously look at my performance I do not think it will be a major factor in their decision, considering the amount of credits I have already completed. I was told it was mostly for records to make sure you graduated high school.

In terms of Gallatin I really don't know to much about their admissions procedure. Across the board you have very good stats so I don't see anything there being a problem. I think, for you, it will mostly be about your essay. Good Luck.

hey,

if you fish through the 2008 nyu transfer thread that number was put out...around 5% give or take a couple of points...i too was stunned when i heard it and called nyu to confirm it and they did...this was in around april however though...i can't say i ever really believed it, but thats what they said

Hi,

So I called NYU after I read your post. Naturally, I was freaking out. I spoke with CAS admissions officer. She said she didn't have information, but she did say that acceptance rates really vary semester to semester. So, just because one semester was very low does not mean it will be the same for our semester. That being said I'm sure the likelihood of it being much higher is small. Spring does have fewer applicants though. In terms of HS record she said there will obviously be much more emphasis on college record rather than HS, but it will not be totally discounted. Hopefully the upward trend will help me? Call me optimistic, whatever. Anyways I hope that info can be helpful for other applicants as well...now it's back to essay writing.

More about me.....

I am transferring out from University of San Diego (USD). The reasons are: 1) I am so sick of my roommate. He causes way too much problems. 2) I am sick of San Diego- very difficult to access the city 3) USD is way to white. The school is lacking diversity. I am Taiwanese. 4) Tons of students here at USD are rude
What is considered a “well constructed” essay?

hey,

Does anyone know the acceptance rate for Gallatin?

I am just about complete with my admissions essays for the NYU CAS spring 2009 spent a combined 40 hours alone just in drafting them.

my current stats are:

Community College in Texas

GPA: 4.0

Hours taken: 63. By end of fall I will have 75 and trust me, I will defend my 4.0 like my first born.

EC's: Current President of the Phi Theta Kappa chapter at my school, Honors college student and academic full ride recipient

Unique facts on resume: Military Iraq war veteran, Speak 3 languages and first generation for college

SAT: Wont need
ACT: Wont need

Hook: Working my essays with a current Harvard MBA recruiting officer.

Bottom line is that im not taking "No" for an answer in fulfilling my dream to get into NYU. So im doing just about the impossible to get things done perfectly.

alfomale-

you'll have a pretty darn good shot...they will not care about this fall's grades however, lest you are really on the border and they ask for midterm grades which i think is unlikely...the fact that you are a veteran will really help

however

if transfer rates to cas remain at around 5%...things will be tough...you may be in that top 30% or so of well-qualified applicants, but from there it may be a crap shoot...

good luck

coolant-

what are your stats?

I really don't think it's 5%. I mean my best friend got in through transfer for the Fall 2008 semster with a 3.3 College GPA, 1600 SAT, and a 3.6 HS Gpa. His essay was good, but I don't think it was THAT great. I'm pretty sure it was more. There was also some other guy that got into CAS for the fall that had similar stats...like a 3.2 i think

oh! i forgot to post my stats:

College GPA: 3.75 (62 units w/o my 6 AP scores)
SAT: A pitiful 1800
SAT II: Spanish 770, US History 690, French 600
High School GPA: 3.6 (with 7 AP classes & 6 Honors)

----> I got a 4.0 for the last 3 semesters, but I messed up badly my first.

Activities:
Phi Theta Kappa Treasurer
Student Government Senator/Appropriations Commitee Chairman
Economics Club Treasurer
Phi Beta Lambda Delegate
Scholars Honors Club

Awards:
Dean's List
President's Honors List
AP Scholar w/ Distinction
Phi Theta Kappa Service Award
Scholars Honor Award

Essays/Recs.:

Rec. Letter from CEO at the place I intern (interned there for 2 years, worked the other 2).
Rec. Letter from my Econ professor.

I think my essays are good? I edited them for about 30 hours.

There! I was super thorough :]

Anyone want to chance me?
....by your guys' standards though I'm pretty much out of the ballpark, or even the planet haha

Good Luck to everyone

I dont think the NYU transfer app asks for letters of recommendation from employers. The two letters of recommendation forms are:

*Teacher
*High School/Counselor Recommendation form

Kind of wierd how a person with so much academic distinction would overlook such an important detail.

I asked if it was okay for my employer to send a rec. letter on the NYU forums and they said it was fine as long as it would provide information that is not already directly stated on the application.

btw I think it was LASTHEADLINE who didn't have the great gpa but got in..

lovehate

what school are you comming from? this is a pretty important factor

I have a 3.4 GPA to this point (rather low)

with tons of EC's+ great recs
