Hello all,
I am applying to NYU as a transfer for the fall of 2009. I don't have the best hs stats, and my college gpa is pretty awful. I went a bit mental since going to college and I discuss it in my essay. I'm hoping it is powerful enough to at least get some consideration. I realize my chances are slim, but I feel I've got to give it another try. Can anyone shed light on ways to strengthen my app, or what college I would be most likely to get into? I have A's and B's in all of my classes, except the sciences, which is why my gpa is in the gutter. I really appreciate any help I can get.
Best, emilyg

what do you want to study? and what are your hs and college gpas?

Hello everyone. I hope you can chance me since my case is peculiar. I am a Hispanic US citizen and I have always lived in Mexico so I speak fluent Spanish and English. I went to a mexican High School which is 3 years long. After I completed my second year in High school I went to England as an exchange student for one year and when I came back I wanted to attend college in the USA and since I hadn't my High School Certificate, I got a GED in English. Because I was living in the border with Texas, I applied to the University of Texas Pan American (utpa) but still was going to High School in Mexico so I could finish it. After one year in college and High School I got my certificate from HS but my parents separeted indefinetely and my mother left to Mexico. I decided to go with her and because that was in late July I barely applied to one of the top mexican universities (Institute of Technology and High Studies of Monterrey, economics major) and I could not transfer any credits from UTPA, so I started as a freshman again. okok thats enough, Now I am about to start my fourth semester in Monterrey and I want to transfer to NYU and do an economics major.

This are my statistics:

High School GPA: 95/100
UTPA GPA: 3.47 (2 semesters, 10 courses, )
ITESM GPA: 90/100 (3 semesters, 19 courses, already took very strong maths ( actually, 2 calculus and linear algebra, this semester im taking math 4), 2 statistics, principles micro macro, intermediate micro macro)

ECs: Very few in college: Association of Creative Cinematographs Treasurer, Economics Student Society Member, National Hispanic Proffesional Organization Member. High School in Mexico: President of all Freshmen, President of all Sophomores, President of all Juniors, President of all Seniors

Volunteer on the Mexican Ministry of Economy in the Public Administration and organization of national events (more than 1200 hours during 2008). Community service in South Mexico tutoring poor kids maths and reading classes, college tutor in Calculus and Micro/Macro Economics.

Worked in a minimum wage job (Clothe Store)
I dont have any AP and IBP because they were not offered in my High School.

Recently I have been invited to a program called Excellency Exchange Program where the best economics major students are invited to attend Yale University, Berkeley or Georgetown for next summer 2009. The selection process is very competitive and faculty professors choose the students, I am so excited!

Thanks very much, hope someone can help me.

I want to study in steinhardt..the media major.
my hs rank dropped when i graduated...i was like 144 or something, and my gpa is a 2.56. I have all A's and B's, except in my sciences which brought me down a lottt.

I'm sorry, but I just need a clarification...
People on here are saying they have 3.3, 3.5, 3.6 gpas, etc, like its not a good gpa. What am I missing here? Because I think a 3.5/4.0 is pretty damn good...Maybe I'm really not cut out for this school?

well what is your college gpa? a 2.5 is hs will hurt you...if your applying for soph. xfer, you probably won't get in

duffle, how are the dorms?!? i'm moving in on tuesday. please tell me they're really nice?!?

aaah! im not moving in until sunday! but ill be in tomorrow so ill tell u then

we didn't really have gpa's in hs...just averages. Mine was like a 95/100. I'm applying for jr transfer

well i moved in yesterday afternoon into the greenwich hotel
i don't know how i feel about it...
i met my roommate last night who seems to be nice
our place is kinda small but we have a kitchen, a dining table, a tv, couch, bathroom, closets...
it's a 10-minute walk to the main washington square campus

i had to call ITS to set up my internet because the housing packet they gave me (welcoming me when i moved in) along with my keys are just sheets of papers about fire safety

i didn't really get information about the general campus (i'm guessing the transfer orientation will tell us about the campus)
i don't even have my NYU ID card yet so when i left my dorm to walk to the NYU card services and found out it was closed until today and walked back to my dorm, the security guard (a new one) thought i was trying to break in and yelled at me lol
i feel like NYU's kinda messy in welcoming mid-year new students...
i don't even know what to do or where to go since most buildings are closed
i talked to my roommate and she said she and her suitemates tried meeting people here but since it's apartment styled places, it's much harder since everyone has their own friends and that she misses the freshmen dorms

ugh

Water Street! AH... it's awesome guys. I'm on the 17th floor and lovin it already! It's awesome!!!

O, I'm so jealous. I'm in NYC, but wish i was at nyu.

Does anyone know/have any idea which school is easiest to be admitted too, or I should say most lenient in terms or stats; I am not applying to a major that requires a portfolio. ?!?
