Haha I now that’s why I put the lol at the front. I hate how this app seems to be stressing quantity over quality though. At least according to this app my SAT is 10 pts higher since it’s just the best of each section XD.

Ahh I’m so nervous. My GC (and like 1/2 the seniors) all tell me I will get into great schools (I go to a pretty competitive HS which sends about 20-30 kids/350 to Ivies and other top 20 schools) but I don’t feel that way when I look here and at that common app. I really hope my doubling AP sciences this year wasn’t for me to just go to Binghamton :P

My school doesn’t really give out school-level awards other than student of the month so no. I did get the Women in Science award though at the junior awards ceremony. I may put that down.

Columbia SHP is indeed an EC. Would National Honor Society be an honor/award or and EC?
I ask only because they give the example of cum laude society as an honor/award.

to mabsjenbu123 and others regarding the new test score questions - you are to report your best scores from the different times you’ve taken the tests, and this includes reporting of your best composite from a particular test. You are not supposed to superscore!

Can I include Piano - Guild and learning Indian classical dance as part of my ECs? I have comepted in several shows. Would this be a good thing to include?

Make sure you check your school’s policies regarding superscoring. For instance, I know Stanford superscores SAT but requires that you send in ALL tests taken (so no “score choice”).

On a different note, I’m lost as to how to apply this. Can someone give me an overview of the common app in layman’s terms? I can’t really understand the site :.

Also, is there any way to change my username/make a new account?

^ It’s not a matter of whether something “counts” as an award or EC; chances are, it does. Qualifying for National Honor Society is nearly meaningless to colleges, because qualifications for admittance to the Society vary significantly, and most of the factors are already considered by colleges in admission. However, if you are actively involved with it with respect to service activities, you should list it as an EC.

@silverturtle: thanks for the reply. I knew I could count on you. For a teen, you are wise beyond your years (I am a mom, btw). I have about a million questions I would ask you if I could…
