Well, we just got Rice's - Others?
Rice +5.4% tuition, +4.6% room and board

One good thing about UIUC is that tuition is locked in for 4 years at the rate it was when you entered. :)

Of course, it does go up every year.

Earlham T 4.4% R&B 3.4%
Whitman T 5.0% R&B 5.0%
Occidental T 5.1% R&B 5.4%

just curious. When tuition and RandB go up , do colleges usually also raise merit awards (for the next class, i.e. class entering in 2011) otherwise, the value of the merit award is less for the next class. for example if COA for College X is 40,000 for class entering fall 2010, and max merit awards given is 18,000, if COA for class entering in fall 2011, is there a corresponding raise in max merit award? I understand that the value of the merit award percentage wise will go down for the class entering in Fall 2010.

Swarthmore is going up 3.8% overall. $51,500 total for tuition, room, board, and activity fee.

I’m too lazy to calculate how much tution went up versus room and board. It all gets paid for with the same green dollars.

With endowments taking a 20% haircut and colleges scrambling to balance their budgets in the face of unprecedented challenges, I don’t think the word “usually” applies any more. I think you have to look at the specific fianancial condition and cost-cutting programs of the indvidual schools you are looking at. It’s all over the board.

Swarthmore is increaseing sticker price 3.8% and increasing the financial aid discount budget by 11% next year. Each school will be different. If the money is there, schools try to increase their aid discounts to offset price increases. In this economy, the problem is that financial aid budgets are growing much faster than the ability to raise sticker price.

DD’s merit does not go up. Something we really should have addressed when she accepted offer. Something to consider for all those in the process now. Tuition R&B have been going up 5% a year. Need to consider that.

Tossed Lafayette’s letter after reading it, but tuition is going up 2.9% - or maybe it was tuition and room fees, I can’t remember. (S is a junior, that’s the last time we’ll receive that letter!) The meal plan is staying the same but the minimum amount of “flex” dollars that upperclassmen are required to buy has increased.

No word from Elon, where D was accepted ED.

Here in Connecticut, UConn tuition, fees, room and board to go up 5.9% next year. [UConn Trustees Increase Tuition, Room, Board, Fees - Courant.com](http://www.courant.com/news/education/hc-uconn-tuition-hike.artfeb19,0,3358838.story) Actually there was a lot of campus sentiment to raise it even more to protect the quality of education. Since lots of in-state students get a half tuition merit scholarships the increase just makes tuition ~ $5,200 though room and board will add 11K.

Ithaca College is increasing tuition by 4.8%, a pretty small amount compared to some other years.

However, it also put aside the largest amount of financial aid ever.

Hoping I get at least the same amount of FA. This is the last year I’ll have to worry about that…

Lafayette College - 2.94% total (relatively small increases in tuition and room fees only).

Penn is going up 3.9% total (tuition plus room/board/fees). YAY!!! I don’t care because I have made the LAST payment! :)

(interesteddad- I had to laugh at your “haircut” comment. Our General Counsel told my paralegal to go find a certain Board resolution about the “haircut” and she came to me totally mystified. I had to explain…it’s not an expression she had ever heard)

University of Cincinnati voted a 3.5% increase LAST year, then cancelled it, opting to wait on the (uncertain) state funding. So there was no increase this year, but next year is either 3.5% or 7%…or somewhere in the middle.

Xavier University 5% increase next year.

For instate students, the UNC system will raise tuition by 8% or $200 whichever is less since each school in the sixteen school system has different tutition rates.
At S2’s school, the room rates will rise by $100. Meal Plans will rise $70-100.

S2 lives off campus so R&B don’t affect us.

The Board of Trustees of Wake Forest University approved raising undergraduate tuition by 3.5 percent for the 2010-2011 fiscal year at their winter meeting on campus February 5.

The increase is the smallest percentage increase in tuition since the 1970s.
