2010-2011 College Football Thread

Went down to Atlanta to cheer on my Tar Heels in the LSU game. Man, what an amazing atmosphere. I’d proud of us, we put on a hell of a fight and came within a few seconds of winning the game, even without 13 of our best players. I’m expecting good things this season.

I just saw the Florida Miami game on espn3 replay. D:

Holy crap that game was HORRENDOUS. #55 needs to learn to snap the ball, the wide receivers need to learn to block on screens, the o-line was soft as marshmallow… And Urban Meyer had this look “yea… we’re f***ed”

On the serious side, I think Florida will do well this season. They have a ton of talent, especially with Dempsey, Rainey, that #6 WR (he’s a beast). A lot of play makers and a talented thrower. Meyer is looking super chill, optimistic and always smiling, which is very admirable. I like coaches like that, as oppose to coaches who yell at everything.

I still think Florida’s going to have a great season.

MAN that center pised me off so much. I wanted to slap him

I think the “worst center of week one award” has to go to Oregon State’s center. He cost them the game in one play. Florida’s center could afford a few gaffs. And Brantley was responsible for a lot of them too.

Here are the big games for Week Two:

Miami (FL) @ Ohio State
Penn State @ Alabama
Florida State @ Oklahoma
Georgia @ South Carolina
Michigan @ Notre Dame

Miami (FL) @ Ohio State
Penn State @ Alabama
Florida State @ Oklahoma
**Georgia **@ South Carolina
**Michigan **@ Notre Dame (I’m very sad to say :()

DONE

one more…

Iowa St @ **Iowa/B

Watching the Boise State - Virginia Tech game. Nike should have their football apparel license revoked with these joke “Pro Combat” uniforms.

I think Notre Dame beats Michigan. I also hope Penn State upsets Alabama. That would be great for the Big Ten.

It’s going to be a loooong night for Tech.

^ I think Tech’s are kind of cool. I like their helmets. Boise State’s, on the other hand, are just fugly

I’m rooting for Boise, simply because I hate the BCS system and want a team to bust it open…

and

I hate Colin Cowherd and he’s been going off lately about how Boise St. is garbage and doesn’t deserve to be on the same field with BCS teams - he’s rat.

WVU got the Pro Combat Uniforms, but I like theirs. It has a good story behind them.

I thought Tech’s looked aweful on the website, but they look OK on the field. I don’t mind Boise’s.

Did anyone look at Alabamas? They are identicle to their regular uniforms. Pitt’s are aweful too, just a solid blue mess.

i can’t believe ucla always has a top 10 recruiting class, this is such a joke

“I’m rooting for Boise, simply because I hate the BCS system and want a team to bust it open”

me too, I doubt it’ll lead to a playoff though

edit: those are ugly uniforms

It won’t lead to a playoff, just **** people off real bad, which I’m cool with.

Cowherd is an idiot. I watch SportsNation for Michelle Beadle.

Ten teams have Pro Combat uniforms. Almost all of them suck except for WVA and Oregon State. Ohio State’s wouldn’t suck if they didn’t put the freaking bronze star on the helmet and gloves.

Alabama has the best one because all they changed was put a houndstooth pattern over the white numbers and stripe.

I know it’s just the 1st quarter, but Boise looks freakin nasty.

Boise State looks good, but I think most of this is Virginia Tech being totally inept and overrated.

Fumble results in Boise State FG

Blocked punt results in Boise State TD, obvious miss-matched blocking assignment

Blown coverage on 25+ yard run, unfathomable penalty on punt, results in Boise State 1st down and eventual TD

Virginia Tech needs to get back in the game.

This is Boise St’s strategy, play highly-ranked teams early in the season before they’ve found their groove, then ride the computer polls and hope the human voters have long memories.

Boise doesn’t deserve to play for the BCS championship. They need to play at least one powerhouse other than VT to prove themselves. This BCS system is full of ■■■

VT isn’t a powerhouse. They are an ACC choke artist that is like 0-21 in top 10 teams away from Blacksburg. Apparently, DC is far away enough.

EDIT: VT is 1-25 all time against top 5 teams.

If Boise State wins the title this year, then Virginia Tech will have played 3 of the past 4 title winners in their 1st or 2nd game. They schedule themselves pretty hard.

It’s WAY too early to tell if Boise State deserves to play for the title. It depends on so much.

Does Virginia Tech end up highly ranked and win the ACC, or collapse and leave Boise without any ranked opponents?
Do two BCS teams finish undefeated? (Boise is out)
Is it like 2007 and the alternative is a 2 loss team? (Boise is in)
Will Ole Miss recover to go 12-1, win the SEC and beat out Boise State for a spot in the title game? (yeah, right)

There will be at least 2 teams that will go 11-1 or better after regular season. Bama will probably be one of them. Also, they’ll probably win the SEC and go to the national championship.

I think Oklahoma has a good chance as well, along with Oregon.

If Boise makes it to the championship, there will be a riot, and I will be pised off because it will be a blowout for sure. They’re mediocre at best in the first place, and they’ll probably be soft after all the easy games.

Oregon has had Pro Combat uniforms since the Arizona homecoming game in 2008, and if the color combination is halfway decent (i.e. not yellow tops with black pants and helmets) they are extremely sharp looking - see the Rose Bowl for an example. (Oregon would be the eleventh team to have them, or really, the first.)

Were they soft in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl? Were they soft in the 2010 season opener (or the 2009 season opener) after not playing for three months? The anti-BSU arguments will ahve to be stronger than that. You can’t just claim “they’d lose” or “they’d be a marginal team at best in a BCS conference” because honestly, you have absolutely no way of proving it.

I’m not talking about just any bowl game. I’m talking about the national championship, a title that other teams work very hard for. Boise State won’t be challenged at all this year. Meanwhile, the other contenders have to play fb powerhouses. Do you really think Boise State would even rank top 10 if they were in the SEC? To think that a team can cake walk a easy schedule and strut their way into the national championship game, while others claw for their extra yards, it would be extremely unfair.
