Glad you heard something at least! So far good news for you flbiii. The main website for the Elks says that the District judging should be done today, then those that make it will be passed on to state. Good luck everyone!

state level! guaranteed $1,000 =]

My lodge doesn’t give lodge scholarships either
I received a letter from them three weeks ago that said I advanced to the next level, but I haven’t heard anything since then. Are they supposed to send letters that notify you that you did not advance?

@watermellen, A few friends of mine who did not advance told me that they had received letters telling them so… although I hadn’t received any communication since I submitted my application, and actually had to call the lodge about 30 times yesterday before they told me that mine had moved on to State.

Meemsy: Thanks! I will try calling them today. Hopefully I’ll get some good news…

Called lodge & son’s application moved to district. No letter yet.

At least some of the lodges can tell you where the applications went! We are still in the dark, but still appreciative of the Elks having this scholarship program. I only hope my son’s app is not lost in space!

In Michigan… received first letter in early January from local lodge and received 2nd letter yesterday from a regional office (notification of moving on!). From what I am gathering, there is one more “round” before one makes it to nationals, correct?

They should have went to district and been judged by Jan 26th, then on to state and judged by Feb 16th, then on to National with a notice of status by February 28th (according to the main site). You can see I have this memorized! It has been hard on us because we thought DS had a good app, but can’t get any info on where it is. We are hoping for good news - I guess it is better to hear nothing and assume it is moving on then to get a rejection letter…Good luck to everyone. If you are still in you should be at your state level, so if you get past that and make it to National you are guaranteed $1,000 per year and are in the running for the bigger awards.

It is confusing but it appears that no news may be good news because some people have letters that say that they did not advance. Hopefully your application is still in the system somewhere!

I heard a month ago that I advanced to districts, but still nothing else. Btw, is it possible to somehow provide updates?

Presidont: I doubt that they are set up to take updates to applications (like a college might). I would go straight to the top and find the contact on the national enf website. Call or email them. Good luck!

I’ve read on the Elks website that those students who are selected as National finalists must submit a secondary application and a Student Aid Report. Anyone know what information is required for those items? If students have received other scholarships, will that potentially disqualify them from further consideration (since financial need is a factor) or will it just drop them to a lower award category? We are in Michigan and haven’t heard anything since dropping off D1’s application, so we’re kinda in the dark at this point. She also applied for the Elks Legacy scholarship with her grandfather as her sponsor, so hopefully she might still be in the running for that if she gets eliminated from MVS consideration due to financial considerations. Any info would be appreciated.

Just got my letter saying I made it past the District level. I’m in Florida. Does anybody know exactly how many levels there are?

haven’t heard a word nor did the other friend of mine who submitted too…

wondering if they will at least send out “good but no thanks letters”?

I haven’t received word either… I plan to call monday.

I don’t think calling will help much to be honest. I was worried about the status of my application too so I called about a week or two ago and the representative of my local lodge was even more clueless than I was, she basically told me to wait it out and see.

You are all gonna love me for this link.

I, too, was frustrated by calls to the local lodge and a lack of information.

Then I found this list and emailed the Scholarship Chairperson for my state.

He replied within a few hours and said to be patient and that District judging was just completed on January 26 and he would be pulling everything together by the end of this week and would then begin to notify people either way.

Look here to find the contact information for you state’s scholarship chair:

January 26, 2011: District scholarship judging completed.

February 16, 2011: State scholarship judging completed.

February 28, 2011: The Chicago office of the Elks National Foundation will notify the 500 national finalists by email.

March 25, 2011: National Finalist applications due.

April 15, 2011: 500 national winners announced.

You guys are gonna laugh -my son emailed the state chair and still never heard anything back! Though it could be the email listed was incorrect and the state chair never got it. We will give the Elks the benefit of the doubt So anyway we are still in the dark. Hopefully DS will get a nice surprise in February. I have to tell everyone though - if you read last year’s threads there are some applicants that never heard anything about their applications ever… they dropped them at the local lodge and that was the last they saw or heard of the Elks. I love that they have this program and I know they are doing a good thing, bless their hearts, but those applications take alot of work. It would be nice to just let the kids know how they are doing. But we still have hope - no news is good news. Still sending out good luck to everyone!!

Yeah my local lodge sent a letter saying advanced to the district leve but haven’t heard back from the district yet so based on everyone’s comments it seems like that’s a good thing for now. I guess it’s best to expect nothing until the 28th
