2010-2011 OCU MT/Opera Productions

Wow. I bet it will be fantastic. I knew JG got married, but I don’t know the girl. I think she is a little older than he.

Yes, I think she is a bit older. How is your D fairing?

srw–My D is doing ok. Nothing has changed. Still waiting tables and living at home. Missed a chance to do an equity show because it conflicted with the community theatre show she is in. Got great reviews from a bonafide critic as Rapunzel in Into the Woods. She is doing what she loves, but not getting paid for it! But she is getting her name out there and meeting people in the business, at least around here.

I can just see her as Rapunzel! What a great role for her. Too bad she missed the equity show, but sometimes that can’t be helped. Any more thoughts on grad school?

She has not mentioned grad school lately. She has mentioned teaching music in a public school system (would have to get alternative certification) but she only applied for two positions at the last minute this year. Most of the area theatres rehearse at night so she could easily work during the day. Meanwhile she has it made in the shade with free rent, food and laundry service!

D having a good start callbacks to Piazza, Smile and Birdie - cast in Piazza and Birdie
She says all have great casts.

Davis, congrats on your Ds casting! Are you going to be able to attend?

Yes we will be there. It is about 11 hours each way from Alabama but we always make at least one show a run. For Piazza we hope to get in for Fri and Sat. Don’t have date for birdie yet but looking forward to it whenever it is. Stripped so most likely just the one performance.

Last I heard Bye Bye Birdie will be Novermber 6 and 7. Times unknown.

D says they are taking Piazza on the road to Alma, Arkansas for a performance the week after the campus performances. Just one long day

I think I remember when my son was a freshman they did that with the fall musical as well, it should be fun and highly educational - what it takes to take a show on the road.

Hello Everyone! Bye Bye Birdie will be performed at Petree Recital Hall
November 6th and 7th at 8pm both nights. (D was cast as Ursula Merkle :))

Congrats on the casting! It will be a great show!

Saw BBB last night. A great job by everyone in the cast. SMILE did not much attention on this post so I will that was a really wonderful show. My D was cast in both.

Zappos we were there Saturday and it was just great. It is a very up tempo and fun show. My D was Nancy and also played Gloria Rasputin. So she has had a very different set of shows from Piazza to Birdie.
TKatsmom your D did great.

Daviscab, I think we ate a late lunch at the same place at the mall Saturday. Our D’s are friends but they didn’t introduce us. She did a great job as Gloria!

Davislcab, thanks! Wish we were not so far away so that we could see all the shows…

If you are on Facebook, you need to “friend” Bass School of Music. They do an excellent job of promoting the school, alumni, and industry as a whole. They have posted a youtube link of the La Traviata cast singing in the cafeteria to promote the opera. My monitor is not good quality and everything is dark so I can’t tell who is who. It looks like one of the guys is wearing green. SRW, is either of the guys your son or JG? They sound amazing, whoever they are!

Hey musicmom, haven’t seen you around for a while! How’s your D doing? Regarding the video, there are several floating around some on facebook and some on youtube. So I don’t know which one you’ve seen. They did an “opera flash mob” in the cafeteria and it looks like they all had a lot of fun. There is a new version on youtube that was put up today by someone called mxt or something like that. My S is the first one to sing in a dark top and shorts (shorts in November? You say. Who knows!). JG is in the show but I don’t think he was in the video, probably couldn’t be in the caf at that time. We are going down to see it this weekend. From all reports it looks like a good show.

I saw the one in the caf, but my monitor is really dark so I couldn’t see anyone very well. They sounded great, though. Enjoy the show and be safe traveling.

My D is fine. She is still doing the same thing (community theatre/waiting tables/auditioning for the few regional opportunities) around here and talking about grad school.
