I am wondering if you look for off-campus housing, what's the likelihood to find something decent in July-Aug for the 2010-2011 school year? I am asking because my son missed the deadline for on-campus housing registration and now he is looking for off-campus. Most of the listings on craigslist now require immediate occupancy or rental starts in May. I was wondering if there will be off-campus rentals available when we wait until summer.

Also, does anyone know how much it costs for parking on campus?

You can probably get sublets of students going abroad, but my s has been dealing with this and found that all leases were 1 yr leases. He is signing June-June. Unfortunately thats more common than not.

My S in another school in Missouri saw the same thing about 12 month lease. I think it must be pretty standard. However, with a couple of housemates it can still be cheaper than the university, even with the extra months.

Stonebridge, do you think you got sandbagged (“Oh gee Dad, I was so busy with my courses I missed the deadline. I guess I’ll just have to rent a house with a few of my buds”)? LOL.

It’s possible but I do think it’s due to his absent-mindedness The sad thing was he was going to rent with two other kids on-campus or off-campus. One kid became a filler with three other kids for a four-BR apt, one signed up on-campus, so now he is left all by himself. He said he had been study so hard and kept a weird schedule that his friends could not get in touch with him. I have no reason not to believe him.

Sorry I didn’ know sooner, stonebridge. My s’s 4th roommate bailed and they lost a great 4 br house that they were really excited about. They just found another house, a 3br, for the remaining 3 roommies, and signed the application today.

I think there is a class of 2012 and class of 2013 facebook group. That might be a good place to post. Also just putting it on his FB page could reach a lot of people. Good luck.

That’s so unfortunate! I am sure he would be happy to be the forth! I just texted him about FB. Thanks for the suggestions!
Tonight, he went to look at a room for rent on Freret St not too far from the campus. It turned out to be quite a dump, and his room will be in basement which he would not consider. I don’t blame him…

My understanding is the housing office also keeps a list of approved (not sure what that entails exactly) landlords. Could be another source if that is correct.
