FSU apparently felt the need to move all their pages related to tuition to something less than helpful, so I don't remember the per-credit hour rate. I was just trying to calculate the upcoming years' costs in a worst case scenario (15% more than last year), but none of the pages related to tuition that I bookmarked work anymore. Usually Google saves me, but almost every page I click on has a $ with no year given.

edit: I did check my past account statement and divided the tuition costs by the number of credits I took each semester, but I'm getting conflicting numbers between the first and second semester so I'm trying to get a concrete number.

Here’s my calculations, according to My Account Statement for Summer 2011 classes:

Tuition was $158.58 per credit hour.

Fees were:
Student Facilities Use Fee: $4.50 per credit hour
Transportation Access Fee: $7.90 per credit hour
Technology Fee: $4.78 per credit hour

Grand Total: $175.76 per credit hour.

Then many online courses had a $210 fee, which is separate. If you had any of your courses include that, it would definitely throw off the calculations. :)

You’re very welcome for that depressing news! :D

Yeah, I figure around $200 a credit hour after fees is going to be pretty close to the actual cost. If everything stays the same, a 15% increase on just the tuition amount gives a new total of $199.55 per credit hour. However, a 15% increase on the “true total” per credit hour is more like $202.12 per credit hour.

Add in the online course fees (which spiked from $135 to $210 last year, no telling how high they go this year), lab fees, and all that, and it’s not pretty right now.

Plus, with the added $5 per Spring and Fall semester FSU Card fee, and it’s starting to get ridiculous compared to what it was just a couple years ago. I know it’s a decent cause, but that $5 card fee was really just adding insult to injury.

Ah I see. Hmm not bad I suppose? Let’s put a total up high estimate, let’s say $20K gets you covered for one school year, that would mean it’ll probably take about $40K for me to complete my BA in PSYCH hmm… I need to stat applying for scholarships :/

I’ll be the one person that says that the Cost of Attendance they list isn’t really that great of an estimate of what it will cost to attend for a year.

Just this last year the Cost of Attendance was around $19,500 I believe, and I am pretty sure my “true cost” as I’ll call it was more like $14,000- this was just by cutting costs in many of the areas they list.
For example, they list books as an estimated $500/semester… I’ve never once paid anywhere near that for books and the like- and that includes a semester where I had to pay $200 for one book.

If you generally know your finances, you can “game” the system to lower costs, making how much you really need in financial aid a lot less heart attack-inducing.

Pasbal you’re right, I have a friend who went to FSU a year ago and she said the website over estimated a bit. And even with the high estimate, you pretty much need to check all your options and utilize all methods for getting cheap books, apartments etc…

And apparently living on-campus is a lot more expensive that living off-campus. So I think I’ll consider living off campus instead of on campus.

I used $200 as my estimated price per credit for this upcoming year. It’s just a little over 15% increase from last year, but still not a bad benchmark for credit cost.

Okay, so for my Intro to International Affairs class, it states that I owe $0 for that class. It comes up in my schedule, but not in my textbook search. I will email them about this as well.

After all the fees it equals out around $194/credit hour.
Which is still $9 a credit hour less than I thought it would be originally.

Did anyone else notice that the Semester Facilities Use fee was $50, when Nolette’s link above said it would only be $20? I’m assuming the link is a typo, but I thought that was interesting. Plus, the extra $30/semester would make the $194/credit hour cost more like the $192 that link said.
