2010 Acceptances and Decisions Thread

No.

Although how can you have gotten admitted to Business at Madsion? Business school admission is not until after freshman year…

UW-Madison General Course - BA Degree 2010 Fall Congratulations! You have been admitted to the University of Wisconsin. We have mailed your official letter of admission and admission materials.

That’s what i see in my application status.

jcjy89- B.A. stands for Bachelor of Arts and B.B.A. for Bachelor of Business Admin. It is not possible to be admitted directly to the undergrad business program at UW. Congrats on your offer of admission! You have been admitted to the University as a whole (i.e. “General Studies”).

Accepted! My first acceptance!
gpa: 3.8
APs:6
EC’s: too many to list here haha (took classes at Yale University ect)
essay:thought it was pretty good
recs: same

hahaha oh i see. Sorry my bad.

Anyway. Does anyone have any idea whether i should go to Wisc-Mad or Illinois-UC? I know its subjective and general but i would like to know your take on this.

^^ I feel like UIUC and Madison are comparable- They are both good schools in the big ten (tied for their business ranking and overall school ranking).
UIUC is A LOT more expensive than Madison so maybe that can play a factor in how you pick between the two.
and also consider whatever you want to major in.

UW is in a better town, not located in the middle of nowhere, and has better sports. UW has two lakes, UIUC has, well, a lot of cornfields. Otherwise the academics are pretty similar. Just my opinion.

I’m from Illinois and I wouldn’t even let either of my HS seniors apply there. I don’t think they wanted to either.

UIUC, like most Illinois state schools is like a sinking ship now. Illinois is so corrupt and the budget is such a mess that UIUC, which is already overpriced, is likely to go up 20 percent. I would stick to UW Madison in a second. Besides, the campus is much much nicer then UIUC.

Depends on what you want to major in and where you want to work after you graduate.

Thanks for your input guys. Looks like most of you would rather UW.

dman741. I’m looking to major in either accounting or engineering. Its two opposite sides but i have not really decided what i want to do yet. As for where i would like to work. Probably in one of the big cities like NY or Chicago or back in Singapore.

Does anyone know why i have not received a status update on my application?
Though Ive turned in my application days before some of the other people who have already posted here.

On my UW Madison account under application status it says:
“Your application is being reviewed by one of our admission counselors. Check back here for updates on your application status.”
It has been like this for over 2 months
im OOS if that helps

Im new here so thanks in advance for any help you can give!

UIUC excels in both of those fields. You should look into it!

Transfer Student : Deferred

Pretty mad about the decision…

-3.81 College GPA

 • Honors Program
 • Several Extracurriculars

I wont know if Im admitted not until the end of may, which makes it hard to get in a dorm by then, because I was hoping to live in a residence hall my first year on campus at UW. Pretty frustrated, and need to figure out how to go about looking at housing. Are there any apartments really close to campus with a dorm like feel to them? I may need to put down a deposit on one by the sounds of it. The people in housing said that I would be applying for residence housing VERY late in the assigning process…

jcjy,

I’m a UIUC graduate and now live on Madison. As far as town and school spirit, Madison is a clear winner. However, for Engineering and, especially, Accounting, UIUC is a superior school.

That said, UW-Madison is working on building its connection to Singapore. I’d suggest you look at the alumni groups in your area to help determine which school has a stronger reputation where you may end up.

Good Luck on your choice.

UW is still in the Top 10 out of what must be 1000 accounting undergrad programs in the US. Hardly a significant difference in outcomes/jobs. Similar for engineering. UI graduates small armies of both majors while UW is smaller. I’d rather take my chances being near the top in a smaller pond.

Suffice to say that both schools offer quality programs in these areas and you probably ought to pay attention to other factors (like how much you’ll like your four years there) in choosing a school.

Definitely look at the whole package. You can do a lot of online searching of the schools. Get as much as you can from the school websites and use Google and Bing maps to see the campuses. Get information from local alumni who have attended each school. This applys to all students in the US also. College is for more than just the degree- there are 4 years of your life to live, learn and enjoy outside the classroom.

jcjy89, regarding engineering at UIUC vs. UW:

At UIUC, you’re directly admitted to your major. At UW, it’s a crapshoot because you don’t apply to the engineering program of your choice until spring of your first year, or later. As such, admission to your program of choice at UW is not guaranteed even though you’re already a UW student.

That also leads to problems registering for classes, as explained here:

And explains why UW’s College of Engineering tells prospective students it takes longer than 4 years to graduate:
