2010 Countdown - discussion and base assignments

I’m too excited to pay attention in class, so here’s a thread where you can talk about the countdown thread. We’ll also discuss our assignments and bases starting next week, since most of us won’t be around this weekend ;)

luke hours away…

So… do seniors already know there jobs (i.e. pilot, navigator, etc.) and tonight is just telling them what base they will have that job at?

Correct. AFSCs come out around April of junior year.

we find out bases and starting dates tonight. can’t wait…

Where are all the UPT bases located besides Sheppard at Wichita Falls, TX?

[JSUPT - USAF Military Pilot Training Information](SUPT – USAF Military Pilot Training Information | Baseops)

I’m curious from a parents perspective.

When it comes time to choose your bases. Are the cadets provided guidance on which bases might be best for their career or chosen AFSC, or do cadets just choose based on location, etc…?

Also when are base choices submitted?

you can talk with officers about it, but otherwise no, no guidance is given. they just get a list of bases they can go to because of their AFSC. Bases are submitted a couple weeks after they learn their AFSCs, which is usually April of their 2 degree (junior) year.

and on that note, i’m headed to Sheppard AFB, TX for ENJJPT!

Congrats Eagle - you can’t do better than that.

Congrats Eagle!
Laughlin for me.

Raimius - a hearty congrats to you! You have been a great resource to many your entire Academy career. Besides learning your base assignment do you also get an assigned starting date for UPT?

Laughlin here.

we get starting dates in april-ish. they give people time to make cases to trade bases if needed, as well as more time to learn about grad school, etc. if someone gets grad school with a UPT slot, their start date won’t be for another several years.

and if Groogwaugh doesn’t get on tomorrow, i’ll share his news

Aviano AB, Italy

Nice! Congrats guys.

Groogwaugh,

What are you going to be doing at Aviano, Italy? My nephew is stationed there flying F-16s with the Triple Nickel squadron.

Reda

Shep, Laughlin, Aviano!!! Wow!!! I am so happy for all and proud to know you!!! Congrats congrats to all!

(So what, does no one want Wright-Pat? You can do alien autopsies there and maybe some reverse alien craft engineering. )

Hornet, is that far from Houston? (too lazy to look at a map)

It’s a 6 hour drive.
