To all of you accepted to Occidental, I’m really happy for you and imma let you finish, but my wait list offer was the best of all time and I need you to respond quickly if you don’t want to go so they can remove my name from the wait list :)

My rejection letter just came.

My business has been taken elsewhere.

Accepted with $10,000 scholarship. Unfortunately, I will not be following my dad’s footsteps by attending Oxy. Great school, but I’ll probably go to Wash Univ or Princeton/Dartmouth (if they make an accident and accept me).

Congrats and good luck to all acceptees!

Yes to WLer’s I’m trying to get the withdrawal of my application portion done quickly so you can hear back! Best of luck to you!!

Accepted with a Dean’s Scholarship, and most likely attending! Waiting on Columbia still, but uhhh yeah ha about that whole getting in thing… So basically I’m going to Oxy!
Yay for getting 3 rejections and an acceptance in one day. :]

lol… the best line ever!!! i have to say DITTO!!!..

I am on the waitlist and I do hope they will accept me eventually.

S2 will not be attending Oxy. He has decided to attend Tulane. I like Oxy and so did he, preferring it to other acceptances to USC and UCB, but Tulane won out on size and location.

Waitlisted… lame

OXy rarely takes students off the waitlist, unfortunately…

The page doesn’t cite what the year was but I’m guessing it should be 2008 or 2009.

So maybe I underestimated Occidental. I was accepted to Tulane, waitlisted at Reed and Emory so I thought I had Occidental in the bag, but then a rejection letter came my way and I was jolted… lol How competitive is Occidental? What do they look for?

I was accepted to Occidental with a Trustee Scholarship!

Not bad for someone who scored a 1790 SAT

Math: 500
Critical Reading: 610
Writing: 680

@Jrose, Occidental is a good school.
I got into Emory, but Occidental seems like a much better and happier environment in my opinion. I hope I get to go to Rice next year, but I may just end up at Oxy based on financial aid.

Does anyone know if financial aid is available to students accepted off of the waitlist?

I was rejected, my scores were decent, but I think the school did not think my personality would fit :D

Just my understanding of colleges, but may prove to be inaccurate:
If you are accepted off the waiting list, and don’t get the financial aid you want/deserve call them and negotiate. I’ve heard that it makes a difference.

I love Oxy, I hope you guys going there next year have a great time :)

Another plus for Oxy for those of you that have not made up your mind yet: The Daily Beast has just come out with its annual list of the 100 happiest colleges in the country. Occidental was ranked #12 in the country, with very high marks for student housing and nightlife! The weather is also a big factor, which is why all of the Claremont colleges placed in the top 10. USC, however, was ranked #31 due to its chronic problem with having enough student housing.

not to rain on the parade, but i’m a current oxy student and that rating is pretty bogus.

that letter to the editor sums it up pretty adequately.

Sorry that you feel that way. One letter by one freshman should not speak for the entire student body. I know a lot of students that love Oxy.
