I’m in the same boat as you. I applied in early december to all my schools (for Biomed PhD programs). I had one interview invite that came around Christmas. I already interviewed and was accepted. This was a school that I thought should be a safety school for me, based on what my profs had told me. I haven’t received any other interview invites. I have received 3 rejections from MIT, Stanford and UCSF. However, I am still waiting on about 9 or 10 schools to get back to me. I know that people have been invited to interviews at the schools that I have not heard from yet, so I’m getting worried. On the other hand, people are telling me: “don’t worry, maybe those people just turned in their applications earlier than you did”, and that “its early and there’s still plenty of time”. I’m just afraid that all of the interview dates are going to pass before I ever hear from these schools. I don’t know if I should contact the schools to ask about the status of my app (i’m a little scared that will only end in them telling me i was rejected). I don’t know what to tell you, I didn’t apply to the same schools as you either. I just wanted to let you know that I’m in the same boat as you, and I’m freaking out!!

BU and Tufts Sackler have yet to reply to me but I’m expecting rejections from both of them anyway (did my undergrad at BU and I’m a pessimist). It should be said that I applied to micro programs so there’ll be slightly different interview dates, but I’m just going to let them pass me and if I get no word, I’ll assume they passed over me.

Just FYI and hope it makes you feel better, I am with you and I’m also a pharmacology applicant. I’m waiting to hear from over half the schools I applied to. Fingers crossed.

I found these to posts in the comments section of an article discussing the science grad school admissions process from the adcom perspective. I thought this info might be helpful to share with you.

Shin is a Science PhD applicant and Julianne is on the Physics Admissions Committee at UW as well as the author of the original article

Hi, I cant resist asking this:
is it true that if you dont get admission decisions until very very late, then youre on a wait-list?
I always thought there wont be a waitlist since the committee already takes into account the fact people wont necessarily come once accepted.
Thanks

Shin If you havent heard, yes, youre probably on the waitlist. We do take into account that not everyone we accept will enroll by admitting more students than we want in our entering class, but the fraction who do enroll can vary by more than factors of 2. One year well get 60% of our acceptances who enroll, and other years its 15%. If its the latter, well then move to admitting students off our waitlist. If youre on the waitlist, it means we probably wanted to admit you at the very beginning, but couldnt just in case it turns out to be one of those years where 60% wind up enrolling. Larger programs probably have fewer year-to-year fluctuations.

Basically if you dont hear anything at all (no rejection or invite) until March or April then you are on the waitlist and there is still a slight chance.
Hope this helps.

I know its Physics and not quite the same but I found this along with the other site last night. (Stayed up until 4am reading, much regretted now btw)
This other blogger “Sean” is a PI in some physics department and seems to know his stuff. The comments are also mainly by professors or current grad students.
I thought it was a nice change from the terrified speculative claims of our fellow applicant. (not pointing fingers, I am definitely one of the ones freaking out)

With regard to the waitlist situation – what if you’re on a waitlist (or two…or three…) and have an acceptance from another school? Isn’t there a deadline by which I’ll have to respond with a yes or no? I mean obviously if you like the school that accepted you it’s a yes, but that would be a real bummer to have already committed and then get accepted off of a waitlist.

I have two interviews (UC Irvine - just this past weekend, and Pittsburgh Medical School - March) and still haven’t heard from 3 other schools which I know have already had interview weekends and accepted some people - Tufts Sackler school is the one I’m hoping for but I really liked Irvine and imagine I’ll end up accepting their offer if that’s all I get before potential waitlist decisions.

So i think someone asked about weill’s imp program and how many interview dates they have. As far as I know there is only one starting on Feb 17th.

Heard for U of Washington Seattle last week, interviewing there in the middle of March. Don’t know about any other schools, as Seattle was the only pharm program i applied to, the rest are neuro.

It was a phone call, actually. I think it depends on the program, since a friend in neuro (who also interviewed) got a call as well; while a girl in another department got an e-mail.

I have applied to Pharmacology programs as well. I have heard back from all the schools except for JHU, UPenn, and Stanford (chemical bio?). I think I may give them a call tomorrow…

yale pharmacology already sent out invites and the interviews are next week.
UNC if u applied also sent out invites already as well as columbia.
